wot is the essential upgrades to get from savage xl to put on my x need to no got 3 spd box and reverse plus clutch bell n spur gear do i really need out else.

The longer TVP's really help. The dogbones, cups, outdrives, and axles are also much beefier. The differentials on the XL are much tougher too.

The dog bones from the XL are pretty much indestructable from what I've seen. Those are a very good upgrade imo...but very expensive. and you need the XL tvps or FLM extended tvps to use them all.

And maybe the 3 speed if you can handle having to take the tranny apart to tune it!

The FLM's aren't extended enough to fit the rear dogbone I think. The FLM's are extended over 2in when while the FLM's are only extended 1.6in.

If you don't want just upgrades from the XL, I highly recommend a tank upgrade. You can get the New Era Models kit or you can go mid tank. The New Era kit consists of the OFNA 125 tank and a tank guard. When you do the mid tank, it's more costly, but moves your tank to where the radio box is. This removes mid tank lean (So does the New Era kit), moves your tank to a safer area, and looks cooler.

The FLM TVP's are great. They have both extended and non extended. They have LCG TVP's and TVP's made with the design of the Savage 21/25 TVPs. I highly recommend going Extended LCG TVPs. All of their TVPs are 4.7mm thick for heavy duty durability. They also have all the holes drilled needed for a mid tank, servo relocation, and many other features.
Innovative RC also makes some nice TVPs, but they are in the UK. Not sure if you wanna pay shipping.
PlatinumRCProducts make some nice Carbon Fiber TVP's and other Carbon Fiber items like servo plates and motor plates.

I recommend upgrading your servos. Get a nice torque servo for your steering and move the SF2 (I think) steering servo to the throttle. Also replace the spring on the brake linkage with fuel tubing for strong braking.

Anyone got exact measurements on those XL center axles? Ear to ear or end to end?

I second the longer TVP's. Even with the X being lowered, the longer chassis makes it a much better handling rig. I have old school HB chassis plates on mine. 1" longer than stock and it handles way better than my old 21 savage ever did. And I have twice the power and taller gearing in the new one. It still would run circles around it off of jumps, rough stuff and even corners. It doesn't turn as tight of a circle, but it's much less twitchy.
