Ok, I decided to go with the Savage SS just beause the MGT doesn't come in kit form and doesn't seem to have a plan in the future for it.

My question is other than the 4 spider gear upgrade, what else do you Savage owners recomend? CVD's? and what type? Yes I do plan on getting a reverse module and no I don't want a roto start system.

I just want to make this a "more" durable truck from the get go since I will be doing the assembly myself. At least the truck will be in pieces so there will be no disassembly afterwards to get through for upgrades.

Also, for those of you that have put the kit together, how well laid out are the directions? Are they well labeled as the Associated directions? My brother put together his HPI SuperNitro Rally and said he had to basically look for parts in his kit. In the NTC3 kit, steps were matched with lettered bags that had the parts necessary for coinciding diagrams and directions.

I just want to know what I'm getting into before I freak and get frustrated with the directions. Then again, frustration always sets in when putting anything together ... especially when you want to start asap.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I do know that in the future, I will most probably upgrade this truck with the truckzilla kit. But I want to beat the crap out of it before hand so the upgrade will be worthwhile.

Diver welcome to the savage crowd. HPI has always been a quality kit. I haven't put it together myself but I have put together two of their kits in the last 10 months. Each had like bag A-H or something like that. It will correspond with the directions. HPI's directions leave a little bit to be desired not much actual captions more picture directions than anything. I am guessing since you have been around a little while you may have a High torque servo laying around for steering. OH yeah it's the kit. Ok so make sure to get a good servo saver the stock one is crap. Also you might want to get the ofna monster pirate servo saver/ steering setup. I just picked up bearings for my steering. If you have no plans to upgrade the brake at all you should do the ofna slide carb linkage setup this will make worlds of difference. Hmm there are lots of other mods to do. I just can't stand having slop in my steering. The SS does look like a nice kit.

Hey Diver. You gotta get that Monster Pirate servo saver set-up. I think it is a must have from the get go. I've stripped the stock servo saver as well as a Traxxas Maxx saver all within 3 tanks of break in. I am using a Hitec 5645 servo and obviously the stock part did not hold up. The linkage mod is a must have also. I had alot of trouble with the brakes not working very well and the carb opening on its own after the brakes were released. The wheels and fuel tank are crap. So they were donated back to the LHS. I picked up the primerless tank and a set of HPI Q6 wheels. The air filter was also replaced with a Mugen 1/8 topped with Ofnas pre-foam. The dog bones are supposed to be heavy duty so I left those alone and will see how the stand up.
The kit itself was an easy build. The instructions were not that bad and as you know the bags are all lettered. That's all I can think of.
Now if the temps outside would rise a little, maybe I could begin tank #4.

ok, anything else guys? so far there's the hi torque servos (i pretty much knew that), Monster Pirate servo set-up (Still have to look into that. first time I heard of it), 4 spider upgrade, the usual stuff (failsafe, trs), bake upgrade ... what else is there?

I'll most probably get my kit from Willis Hobbies here in Mineola,NY. I am also looking for internet deals since Willis Hobbies said they'll match lower or better offers.

Please keep the list going guys. I wanna do most of the important upgrades while putting this puppy together.

DER, can't believe I forgot get the S-25 primerless tank. It is a must have as well. Ummm, those really are pretty much the weak points of the truck. Ok if you don't want to do the monster pirate setup you can just pick up two sets of 6x10 bearings and a kimbrough servo saver or an ofna servo saver. It works wonders. Don't know about anything else it is a solid truck from there really. You could look at upgraded center bones as I believe the SS only comes with upgraded drive bones for the wheels. Only other requirement is you must post pics once you are done.

Check into that MP setup. Part # ofna 18098.It includes the bearings and retails for about $20.You can visit Savage-central.com. They have alot of info you're looking for.

Don't even bother with the S25 primerless tank.I've read that it still doesn't fix leaning out problem.I run the Ofna tank mod with an Adrenaline tank guard. This setup rocks!!!! The tank doesn't move and it sucks up every last drop of fuel without leaning out.The diff mod is a good start. The linkage mod would be my next upgrade then the MP servo saver upgrade.Make sure if you get the MP setup that you order the one with ball bearing in stead of bushings.I had problems with stripping wheels even with new hex's and proline wheels so I used Savage-central wheel adapters and Proline 40 series Outback weld wheels. You can see pics of my tank and linkage and wheels in my gallery.
