Hi guys,

What would cause uneven tire wear? One of my rear tires is becoming bald while the other seems to be doing much better. I'm going to adjust the camber so that the wear becomes more even throughout the tire.. but I'm just curious because one tire is so much worse than the other.. Any suggestions or comments?

Tire wear is caused by caster/camber & Toe In/Out problems. Just take some time to reset all of the settings and it should solve your problem, but it sounds like you have the right idea to begin with.

I found this thread while doing a search for uneven tire wear. I know it's old but I have a very similar problem. RF tire on my RTR Losi Eight-T truggy is wearing much faster than the left. I am having slightly uneven wear on the rears too just not nearly as dramatic. This only started after I upgraded my RTR diffs with TLR upgraded parts and no change to the caster/camber as discussed in above posts . Could this somehow be a cause? I used the Losi RTR recommended viscosity diff fluids. (3000 rear, 7000 center, 5000 front). I am wondering if I should have gone with thicker visc fluid in each. I think TLR recommends higher visc fluids depending on which version of truggy I look at. (TLR Eight-XT recommends (5000 rear, 12500 center, 7000 front) Anyone else having this issue? Am I on the right track with the diff fluid visc? Pic's show the worst wear spots on each front tire. Thanks much for your thoughts!

My guess is open diff letting one tire spin more than the other tire. If thats the case get a diff locker or use heavier diff fluid. It could also be camber/toe/caster too so Id look at those first.

Yeah, I don’t think I’m going fast enough for it to be tire wear due to camber/toe issues but I could be wrong. Thanks for your thoughts on the diff fluid. I think we are on the same page there. Diff locker? I’m thinking it locks the center diff but exactly how?

It doesn't seem like anyone makes a direct replacement diff locker for the 8ight. Well one guy on ebay is custom making them but he wants $80 a pop so....yeah, no. Id just experiment around with some heavier weight diff oils and see what happens. If it fixes it great. If it makes it better but still a little uneven wear then maybe try going even a little thicker. I'm not 100% sure. I've never really had to much issue with this on any of my kits cuz I tend to change tires a lot.

Sounds like the heavier oil in each diff is what I'll try. I did more research on the diff oil weight and how it effect car handling..... pretty amazing stuff. Thanks for your thoughts on this. I'll try and report back after I get everything swapped out and a feel for results.

That is weird ,looks like the one tire is unloading more than the other!..🤔
May just need a thicker diff fluid!

That was my initial thought too Baker after seeing the pic. Couldnt find a diff locker out there for his specific kit. Heavier diff fluid should produce similar results.

All the years that I messed with RC ,I never dabbled into different weights of fluids ,actually I never
really used any fluid ,however ,I always just used grease in them an never had a diff pop with grease!

In RTR's ,a lot of people tend to ignore that area thinking the manufacture had put the fluid in ,so
a lot of times that area is over looked ,an in some cases ,the fluid that was put in leaks out!
Maybe this is the case where the fluid has disappeared over time!

I eventually need to break down my Mantis diffs ,after 10 years of running it ,an sitting ,I am quite
sure that there is no more fluid in them ,but I dont have no uneven tire wear ,that is why that I
thought this of being weird ,as I never experienced this issue!..:thumbs-up:
