:\:\:\the last three steering servos I've put in my maxx all seem to operate farther in one direction than the other,and now with the spectrum a6030 its doin the same thing,I'm at a loss for words,is it my receiver,or even my radio?I've pulled the cases apart on the servos and tried to reset the gears but that doesn't do anything,i could be doing this wrong but i dont really know,is it really possible that i have gotten 3 bum servos in a row?that seems quite unlikely,i thought spectrum was about the best?I'm leaning twards my electrical and not the servos,..has anyone had this problem?

Hi hotrodrob,
Are you using the steering trim button, to correct the servo over steer?
Give that a try and you may find your fix.

ya i have ,i set the trim and offset the servo horn the best i can but still have that" too far one way" issue,i dont get it i should be able to set my trim at about zero,put the horn on and have plenty of adjustability.right?....when i checked it out first i hooked up the servo,set my trim to zero,then operated the steering servo with the controller,and what i observed was the servo operating at about " 60-40... as a percentige of distance from left to right

Hi,
I think you would have a bit better luck, with adjusting/correcting your steering trim while actually driving the model.
Pretty difficult to measure the trim, while sitting on a table top.
You can zero the trim all you like, but that won't correct any thing, trim while running.

i hear what you are saying,and I've gotten it all together and tested the truck but it steers wayyyy far too one side,and perfect the other way,like i need some sort of limiter or other adjustment,the radio operates the servo too far in one direction no matter what i do,

Hi,
Perhaps you have a problem with your Tx radio then.
Sorry, I'm unable to help you further, without being there.
Perhaps take it to your nearest LHS and have them take a look.

I am not professional, only a rank amateur, where this technical stuff is involved, but trim is pretty basic.
You run the model and trim the steering or throttle as need be. if that isn't correcting the problem, then you do have a problem.

Ya,that's my story ,problems,lol....when I got my rc stuff out of storage the tx/rx was really " buggy" ya know,and has never worked like it was when it was new! ....probly time for new gear,..thanx for keeping up with this thread bud.,..happy hollidays to ya if I dnt get to bs with ya before then.

Hi,
But you said it was three servos, and not mentioned Tx.
So I'm guessing the radio is troubled.
If all your batteries are charged and nothing else is faulty, must be the Tx.

Also check your linkages and make sure they are both the same length. if one is a lot shorter than the other and you center your horn that way then it will off to begin with.
 
Linkadges are both the exact length,
I am using an old traxxas tx/rx,the one I got when the t-maxx first came out,
 
No doubt you already know that the trim is only used to set the travel in a straight line while it's running.
If it's been sitting for a while it's possible that the pillow balls have gotten a bit sticky, restricting the travel in one direction. Try cleaning and adjusting them.
 
The truck itself is tip top,its the fact that no matter what servo I run the "servo itself" operates farther in one direction than the other,..it seems as if the controller will not send the full signal to one direction but it will to the other.,...I am just using the radio off that old truck Rolex,I recently custom built a new Maxx new,.

Do you have another trx you could try, maybe a buddy's? Your trx may have been damaged over time, maybe it's not registering the full travel of the wheel.
 
Well, for sure it's not the servo.
Disconnect the servo arm and physically move the front wheels from full left to full right and check for any binding or tightness.
When the system is reassembled, the wheels need to be straight, and the servo needs to be powered up and centered before reattaching the horn.
 
Yeah I've done all that Rolex,its deffinetely not the truck,,

Schrodemode,I Dnt have another trx to try yet,possibly in a few days.

I'm gunna take my radio apart and have a looksie,
 
Do NOT take your Tx apart. There's nothing you can do in there except render it useless.
I doubt it's your radio if the trim is centered.
Try one more thing...
Using any one of the servos you already tried power it up using the same radio and receiver. Plug it into the steering socket and put on a control arm centered and perpendicular to the case. Make sure the trim is centered and the control arm is at 90 degrees to the case. Turn your steering wheel full left and full right and see if the arm travels to the same point in both directions.
If it does, the problem is NOT in the electronics but in the mechanicals of the steering.
 
rolex,i have done that and that is how i came to realize there is a problem,and that i think it is in the radio itself,i must have not been too clear on that earlier in my posts,sorry for the confusion,i originally thought the problem was 2 bum servos,..then when i hooked up a 3rd servo the problem persisted, i thought it can't be the servo's,...also I've been soldering in new pots and transistors in amplifiers for years and also soldered in new trim pots in an old futaba radio that works great now,why not a traxxas?..........


update..i borrowed a radio and receiver from my buddy,hooked it up and the servo operates evenly in both directions,.then i hooked up my rx with his tx and i got the same results,nxt i tried his rx with my tx and with that combo i was back to problems,so it must be my tx,so the question is can i fix it?...will a new steering pot fix it? or is there something else i should be looking for inside the radio?....i have it apart now and found a little rust on the screw that attaches the antenna,i cleaned that up and used a little dielectric grease,tested it, and it didnt help with the steering,but it did help with the jitters.

my throttle servo is now being operated slightly by the steering! no matter what tx/rx or combonation i use! wtf is goin on here,is it the throttle servo itself adding to my issues?...i tried a different servo for the throttle and got no results.

If there's no adjustment left on the steering potentiometer, you'll be looking for another problem in the circuit.
Stop pulling your hair out and get a new Transmitter and Rx. They're so cheap now, including the computer versions.
Several members here have gotten Flysky and think they are great radios at a super cheap price.
 
yeah new is what i need,ill check out the flysky, i found a venom tx/rx brand new on ebay for 32$ shipped,but it will be a while before i can even afford that,just trying to get running till then
