yesterday i got my xxx-nt. and when i started it up, it seemed like it had no power at all. it would rev very high and barely move. so i just started messing around with it and i held the left back tire still, and turned the right back tire clockwise. then i noticed that it got harder and harder to turn, then it stopped...

then i started up the truck and punched the gas and it took off like a rocket.

but after about 2-3 minutes the truck started doing what it did before i turned the back wheels...

so i cut it off and turned the tire again and it tightned up. then i started her up again and hit the gas and it took off perfectly again...

well after doing this for like and hour, i called the hobby shop and he said that i need to take off the right rear dogbone and tighten the flat head screw that is behind it. so i took off the dogbone and tightend the screw really tight and then something on the inside popped...and the screw turns freely...

so can someone please help me...I'm gonna take my truck up to the hobby shop this weekend if i can't fix it myself.

oh yea, keep in mind that the man at the hobby shop rebuilt the differential just before i bought the truck.

can any one please give me some kind of help???

Ok what your LHS asked you to do is to tighten up your Diff. This should never be forced. You very well might have done some damage. Can't say what though. Ifthe person rebuilt the truck and then sold it to you he could have not tightened it properly. Your two main problem I think are your slipper clutch and now your diff. DON"T RUN IT. If you can bring it back to the guy that sold you the truck and gave you advice and let him know to see if he will hook you up.

Do you mean the slotted screw that's inside the drive cup on the diff? If that's the screw, then it sounds like first your diff was too loose and slipping. Then, when you tightened it, sounds like you stripped the screw. If that's the case, the diff needs to be taken apart to see if it was just the screw that's stripped or if the nut on the opposite side is stripped.

do you think you can hook me up with some instructions on how to get to the inside of the differential...and yes it is the screw that you were talking about.

and is it difficult and how long would it take on average?

thanks so much

ok...whew that was fast...i just flew to the hobby shop and back to let him fix my truck...i wonder if he is gonna charge me since he is the one that rebuilt the differential, i hope not.

thanks so much for your help guys!

I had the xxx-nt. The diff consists of a small handfull of parts. THe part that you broke could be either the mini aluminum locknut (sucks) or the bolt itself.

I found that I chewed up a lot of the moster diff gears, so I replaced it with RRP's aluminum version and also replaced the diff balls with losi's carbide diff balls. Also, to keep things from loosening up, I replaced the mini locknut and plastic housing it rests in with a HAMMAD GHUMAN aluminum diff nut that is a one piece design unlike the stock setup. Much more durable and less likely to strip.

Here's a link to the diff gear: RRP Losi xxx-nt monster diff gear
And a link to the diff nut: HG Diff nut

I ran both of these parts for about 6 gallons of heavy bashing and they never failed. Then I sold the truck.

Been there, done that... I recommend installing the HG Al. Diff nut to beef up yout Differential a bit... I've used it, & it works great... When tightening your differential, you need to go easy...
Here's an excerpt from the Losi Manual...

RCAdrenalineRush, You should be able to fix your stripped monster diff nut from the exterior without splitting the transmission case and removing the diff assembly. It does not take alot of pressure to strip the cheap aluminum 4-40 nylock nut(monster diff screw nut). Use a steel 4-40 nylock with a very small amount of blue locktite if your in a pinch. The best solution is Niftech's Micro-fine diff screw. It allows you to really LOCK THE DIFF IN. Good luck

thanks for the info chad, but i just replaced the whole transmission and everything...works great though!
