Nice match up tonight on PPV, Hughes v St Pierre for the welter belt. Pulling for my boy Matt in this one, it should stand to be a great match up. Also on the card Tim Silvia will defend his heavyweight belt against Jeff "the Snowman" Monson. Despite the huge reach advantage and height advantage 6'8" v 5'9" I think Monson stands a really good chance. I think Plaidfish met the Snowman at his gym.
 
We now have a local cage fighting circuit starting up here in Northern CA. Their first event was a huge success. They PACKED out a huge pavilion at the fairgrounds and could have doubled the attendance if they had more room.

This sport is big business. The GE tickets were sold for $125.00 each and were being scalped at the door for 200-350.00. There was a huge woop-te-do in the media on how it would attract the gang crowd and violence outside the ring would be uncontrollable. It was quite the opposite. The attendance was blue collar and yuppie with over half being female.

From what I understand, they are planing a monthly schedule. From what I hear there are a lot of top players here in Northern CA and they are begging for ring time to get experience so they can move on to the UFC. Ill try to get some tickets to the next event if possible.
 
There's a couple of decent training camps up your way. I believe American Kickboxing Academy is one of them. MMA is taking over from boxing and boxing has nobody to blame but themselves and Don King. So corrupt. We have a local org around here but it's not that good. CA is full of awesome camps and when they opened it back up to MMA a few months ago I figured it would not be long before the smaller venues started popping. And you're right, a lot of females are into it.
 
I'm looking forward to tonight's event. I'm getting sat cable installed at 3. I hope they can finish in time to see the tournament. If not, we plan on hitting one of the local bars that is broadcasting the event for free.

GO GSP!!! It should be a great fight.

I'm ready for this been waiting, matts going to take it and monson going to get his ass beat I'm not to impressed with his fighting lacks stamina big time....can't wait for the tito- liddel 2 fight
 
I met Monson at a skatepark...LOL...he trains with one of the guys I skate with there.....he's got NO NECK and sausage shaped fingers, freak of nature huge...I saw the fight on PPV he was in 5 days after I met him.....then I went to Top team to pick up my friend and met Liborio...intense dude..like a freakin Army recuiter.....they live/breathe/poop fighting there....WAAAAAY too intense for me.....I like my "female pee pee" TKD for now.....I'm not looking to be an Ultimate Fighter and get my ass kicked.....LOL.....silvia is big and bad but I can't imagine him being as scary lookin as Jeff does in person....seriously, I'm 220 (about 15lbs overweight) and he makes me look like a meat puppet.....the guy is just scary as hell lookin.......
 
Ok, I'm in shock here. Matt lost, he looked like he was waiting trying to take it to the later rounds and got caught. He did get kicked in the balls twice (unintentional) but I think it threw him off little.
 
My cable installer flaked so I didn't get to catch the fight. Just finished reading about it on sherdog. Way to go GSP!! I wish he hadn't delivered two groin kicks though....critics will certainly take a little of the fight away from GSP for that, even if they were unintentional.


They are already talking about Hughes/GSP II....LOL.
 
good fights tonite.....matt looked like he had no chance....sylvia stood his ground monson looked like he ran out of gas but it was one hell of a fight
 
No I really don't like WWF or WWE or whatever they changed it to or even WCW or whatever the other wrestling is called.

Put on a good boxing match where two guys duke it out and I'm all for it. I'm not the type of guy that enjoy watching some fake drama queens run around in a ring (wwf) or two guys kick or punch each other then start fondling and rolling on the ground (ufc).

Now ask me when UFC first started going big time and that's when I liked it, because it was just two guys beating the holy hell out of each other. Now it's more ground wrestling and submission holds. :\

Just my two cents.

its all about hand on hand combat....i was the biggest boxing fan the ppv cost more the fights got more boring...the heavy weights are just straight up drag & boring everywhere you go now you can find a couple of guys grappling its the sport of the future and boxing is going to die off....pride kicks ass to they make a joke out of ufc
