Tx before Rx?...

I'm "bad", often turn Rx on before Tx?...

In my TeknoRC EB/NB48 2.x, w/Futaba/Red's, nothing happens to the model - if the wheels are turned, they stay turned, EB zero throttle (NB not started). As soon as I turn on the Tx they move to control settings (wheels straight, idle/zero). Oftentimes when practicing w/EB & NB, I'll leave the EB off the side of the track, run NB until broken/turtled/out of fuel, then switch Tx to EB and carry on (until it turtles, and I have to get down out of the stand)?...

Not sure I ever figured out how to set "failsafe" but do keep a good eye on Tx Batteries.

(Edited to add) Well, the Transponder's red LEDs start blinking, so I know they have power.

It's good practice to do Tx on before Rx and Rx off before Tx, but in modern terms with all of the settings and tech inside of new radios especially higher end ones like your futaba, it's more of an outdated practice from when we were running FM and early 2.4ghz radios when they didn't have a failsafe.
My NB4 Flysky does the same thing your futaba does. Power on the car, receiver stays on standby until tx is on and receives a signal and it's operational. If I switch the model, it will disconnect and will go back into standby, vise versa.

Although if someone has one, some off brand / budget radio systems often don't have a good reliable failsafe (like Radiolink and DumboRC) so it's still good practice just in case

I still have old school electronics in some buggies. They could run off very easily with signal loss. A physical spring, band... some sort of manual, no power required fail-safe throttle return is a really good idea.
If for some reason an RX battery gets disconnected in a WOT nitro... run run RUN!!!

I have only had one radio runaway 20 years ago. Futaba. Cost me like 3 links and a hex.

Yep, we had a full-throttle runaway NB get outside the fence last year, finally got wedged under a car (no injuries), but the damage was done (rod).

This is kinda OT, but the very first time I took my EB48 2.1 to the track, it took off in FT reverse and tangled/caught in the fence at the end of the main straight, and nothing I did on the Tx could stop it?...

Guy next to me says "we usually go the other direction"...

Next time throw Mr Helpful in front of your buggy. That should shut him u ...errr that should slow your car down!

All good, and we got it figured out. Had my buddy do the BT ESC programming to get through the day but did settings/downloads on mine so I can do my own. Another reason I like NB (can't go FT reverse)?....

If your nitro is running full on reverse, you must be a very tallented builder!!!

I can't help but wonder if turning the Tx on 1st may have helped too.

Ha! We may never know. It was really strange, hit the forward throttle and it went FT reverse, I had not yet programmed the ESC (factory settings), because I was having trouble downloading the App & connecting to BT. That did cost me a rear lower control arm (I usually break fronts). NB don't need no Steenkin reverse!...
