Hey guys... I finnally got a temp gun today and found my temps are getting close to 300. That was with my HS needle about 3 turns out so I backed off another1/2 turn and they were down around 250+/-, but when hard on it, (like full throttle at low speed doing doughnuts or whatever) it still gets up around 290-305 degrees...

It's pretty close to freezing outside so I'm wondering if the cold air makes it run a little extra lean or should the cold temps offset the dense air? I hate to richen it even more the damn thing is running so good lol..

The other thing I'm wondering is off the line if it's a little sluggish.. should it pull weelies on pavement from a dead stop? I've been leaning the LS needle 1/8th turn every trip out but it doesn't seem to be helping yet..

TIA

2 things.

1. yes, colder air temps will lean an engine out.
2. When leaning out the LSN, the HSN will lean out with it. This is probably the reason for the high temps.

here is a test to see if your LSN is set correctly.

drive the vehicle around for 30 seconds or so, then come in and let it idle for 10 seconds. after the 10secs give it full throttle. does it bog down for a second before clearing its throat? if so, the LSN is too rich. adjust slightly and perform test again. If it coughs and sputters, then jumps to life, the LSN is set too lean, adjust and repeat.

make sure u drive the vehicle a minimum of 1 minute between adjustments to allow the needles to adjust to the new settings.

cool thanks. I've definitely experienced a little bogging after it idles a few seconds.

If it's nice tomorrow I'll give it a go. I'll lean out the LS and richen the HS at the same time to compensate and see how that goes.

K i tried leaning the LS and richened the HS st the same time both 1/4 turn.. but it killed the top end so I just put the HS back where it was. I also had to turn down the idle 1/4 but now I'm pretty happy with the way it's working.

It'll pull wheelies if it's rolling backward slowely when I crack the throttle. Under full acceleration it's always got one front wheel in the air if your not going in a dead straight line.. And then it looks like both will any second lol..

And it ran about 250 the whole time except by the end of the second tank of gas it was getting close to 300 again :( But I was being pretty abusive heh.. I think what happend is the tank was getting low and some air was in the line leaning it out a bit..

once you have it tuned properly get a NOVA head... drops it up to 40 degrees.... I am running a WASP 26 and my temps stay around 215 to 260 full bashing..

Your not supposed to adjust both of the needles at the same time. You need to adjust the HSN first, then the LSN.

I noticed that mine when it's accelerating and before it shifts to 2nd with sputter a bit, and sometimes after it hits 2nd it will sputter again, could it be too lean? The temp outside is 28 right now, and is snowing a little.......I'm running a Savage 25 BTW.
