:help:Was out running my Hellfire4.6 and it was running perfect until I hit a puddle and then there was a whole lot of steam and then shortly after it started to run poorly. It would hesitate and then take off so I thought it was lean, so I richened it up and then it would be to rich, no matter what I did it was either or. What is my problem, did the steam get sucked in the air filter? Help, please.

I would not worry about steam, but WATER in your ait filter, which could be in your mill! I dont see it being a tuning issue since it was running OK before you hit the water. You may not want to, but I would really think about pulling the motor and maybe tearing it down. Just to make sure that nothing but MAYBE water got sucked down in. The smallest amount of dirt is killer.

Well I can't find any cracks and haven't done a leak test. Had it out and it still runs strong but when I pin it from a stop the power comes on slow and then explodes where it use to explode right when you hit the throttle. I've tried messing with low, mid and high speed needles and I can improve it but not get it to explode right out of the hole. How much does cold weather have an effect on these symptoms. It has been around freezing temps the last couple of times out and it was probably 10 degrees warmer last time it ran perfect. Is that my problem and things will be they way they were when it gets warm?

Not if you were tuning the neddles. it wont just return to normal whenn it gets warm if you were re-tuning! Yes cold weather will affect tune.It dosent sound like a leak, but its possibile.Check your fuel lines as well, all over. they can crack at the barb as well!
Take the tuning STEP by STEP! DONT "mess" with the low, and dont TOUCH the mid till you get the other 2 dialed! There are some tuning threads on here, search around.

I had the motor apart and all looks well, put it back together and seal up the back plate. I think most of my problem was the taller 15 clutch gear versus the 13 tooth, the cold weather and not getting to operating temp while i was tuning. I can get it real close but it seemed to still be changing as it's breaking in, I have about a gallon and a half through it now. I think the problem was solved when I changed the gear, but when I did it, like an idiot I only put the inside bearing on the clutch bell gear and it was wobbling around hitting the big gear and engaging early on the clutch shoes. I discoverd this after I hit a brick wall and was tearing down for inspection. I also was reading on some tuning tips how factory clutch shoes/springs often engage early, so on the hellfire with no transmission and only one gear which would be a higher gear, this would compound the problem if in fact the clutch engages a bit early. I have the Werks Racing 4 shoe clutch on the way so I can tune it so my engine doesn't have to lug as much. Thanks again for all the help.
