i just bought a t-maxx 3.3 brand new last week. i love it i got about maybe 4.5 hrs on it. but I'm having some tuning issues w/ it. i can't get max performance out of it first it was just hesitating on take off now i can't keep it running, i can drive it around a bit but when i make a high speed pass after i let up on the throttle it dies I've messed w/ the idle screw and nothing. so now it dies after a run and still hesitates on take off. any help would be great

thanks bob

do you have a temp gun cause if it heats up then you're lean and you have power loss if you cold which is about 140 to 190 so yeah temp would be good cause those symtoms go both ways also is blue smoke coming out also what gas are you running

yea blue smoke comes out pretty heavy when i first get on it which makes it seem rich so i lean it out and nothing. then i lean it out to much and it wont idle then i richen it and it runs then alot of smoke. ill check the temps. plus its about 45 degrees out here. i run traxxas top fuel 20%

You need to lean out your LSN for proper idle and takeoff. When you get it balanced out with the Idle setting, you can adjust your HSN for WOT and minor tweaking according to outside temp and humidity.

i tried that today and it still wasn't working but i didnt get to try long as my ez start died. but i dont think the engine is gettin up to temp. so I'm gonna try tomorrow to tune it. hopefully i can get somewhere i am yet to feel the wrath of this 3.3

I think whats happening is your LSN is lean and your HSN is rich. Sounds to me like thats whats happening.

I also have a 3.3 tmax and have had a bit of a struggle with tuning. these engines seem to be a bit touchy. One thing you might want to check is your fuel line across the exhaust. I noticed that after doing the burn in process on mine a hole had melted in the line making in impossible to tune properly. Another thing I had to do is tighten the ring on the fuel tank door. And I can't stress enough get a temp gun.

well i got some bugs worked out of it today. i got the idle set the LSN was lean. but it seems like the truck will only run rich when i lean it out it just dies on take off. so i richen it up and can cruise thru the yard. but at WOT it cuts out and sometimes dies.

Be cautious when leaning the LSN. Slightly too lean will make it take of nicely, but will also cause it to overheat quickly. You really need a temp gauge.
If your idle is good and your takeoff is good, you'll need to adjust your HSN for WOT.

i had to richen the LSN. yea the idle is good,i have to take off easy b/c if i hammer it i cuts out or dies. the highest temp the motor got was 240

wow yeah i need to clean it off cause i can't tell if the smoke off the head is heat or just fuel burning off the head

Don't be trying to correct the tuning right after starting it. You can only get an accurate tune when it's up to temp.
If it's cutting out when you punch it from a stop, you still don't have the LSN set correctly.

alright man thanks. i can't do nothing today its been raining all day ill try it when it dries out a little

i was trying to say mine has similar symptoms but theres smoke coming off the head so i said i needed to clean the head to make sure that the smoke off the head was just fuel i spilled on it or if it was running hot

o my bad man :hehe:

i dont know if i spilled fuel on it or not but it looked greasy in near the glow plug

wells guys just got it tuned. it was running awesome i put the the mixture settings back to factory then fattened it up 1 full turn then it popped a plug! i went thru 3 plugs to day in about an hour. i hate "real McCoy" plugs
