I searched so dont get mad at the dumb question.

When at full throttle, my engine makes kind of a popping or bubbling sound like it is revved out maybe. I dont know how to explain it, but I cannot tell if my trans is hitting 2nd gear or not. I've adjusted 1/4 turn both ways on my trans and can't tell a difference. Just wondering if my HSN is still too rich.

Also, when i take off there is quite a bit of smoke but when i try to lean the LSN it bogs when i take off.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!!

Jake

I don't know what you are trying to expain, but......

You want some smoke. If it is too lean, there isn't much smoke and the engine will overheat.

Do you have a temp guage? You want it to run around 260 wide open. Just depending on what engine. That will be the high speed needle. Next you adjust the low speed. You want that to where it will take off from idle and not bog down.
You can pinch the fuel line, and the engine will run for about 3 seconds without cutting off?

Tuning these little engines takes some patience, but it's worth it in the end. You'll be able to tune it before long though. Here is a link, might help. http://www.rchobbies.org/cars_eng-tuning.htm

Also, what car do ya have? That will help the guys to help you. Good luck.

When asking for help....Always start with the rc and the engine you are trying to get info about. Also how much fuel has been run through the engine, what are your needle settings, these will make it a little easier for someone to help you. You should adjust the HSN first, get it shifting at least before you worry about the LSN and remember make small adjustments at a time.

jd....like the others said above, some more info is needed to help u out...
but here is my .02. the shifting is something u WILL notice if its doing it.
try and picture this as the truck pulls away from u....when driving will hear the engine sound like wahhhhhhh, when it shifts u will hear it go like WAHHHHHH but at a higher pitch. u will also see it go faster. hope that helps.

as for the bubbling sound, it might be on the rich side (HSN) turn it clockwise to lean it out some. the tranny/engine needs to hit a certain rpm range to shift correctly. make your adjustments in 1/4 turns and write them down. this way u have a reference point to return to if need be. one u get it running good, with a good trail of blue smoke, adjust the LSN in 1/8 turns.

Sorry guys. I assumed yall would know (i dont know how yall would know though). Its an HPI Savage 25 RTR.

If your supposed to hear the tranny shifting, it is not shifting. It sounds like the engine is wound out kind of, like it needs to shift. But it is going pretty fast...

Thanks for the help. I'll try these out.

Thanks again!

Jake
