When I used to race outboard hydroplanes some of them used a tuned pipe that you tuned while you were driving. The tuning was merely pulling, making the exhaust pipe smaller for higher rpms increased the hp of the engine while at slower speeds the exhaust was longer and created better low end speed.

I was thinking if you removed the reverse gear and moved the throttle servo to where the tranny shift servo should be and make a linkage for the old throttle servo to pull or push the pipe for high or low end speed increase. Anyone ever try something like this>
 
I just seen a kyosho exhaust bolted on to an OS engine yesterday that did just what you are saying. The way he had it setup was that the throttle linkage continued from the carb to the exhaust. Depending on your carb setup it might be easy. But I really dont know how the thing performed either. Just letting you know I seen one. And that it was Kyosho that made it.
