ok newbie here, pulled trigger on buying son a nitro truck. watched video and read through manual and said ok lets break in a engine. well 3 calls to traxxas, and 4 tanks of fuel later engine still wont stay running. don't know what type of damaged traxxas had me do to engine to try and get it to run. they had me play with high idle screw and little screw under high idle screw (notice i use proper terms)

NEED HELP on getting engine to run. We ended night with truck running doing 2 to 3 sec. runs at half throttle and braking:angry:. had to keep giving it gas so engine would not stall out. If i came to complete stop as soon as I applied gas engine dies??????????

When you look into the carb throat there should be a .7 to 1.0 mm gap with the throttle closed. Be sure the idle gap does not close completely when the brake is applied. If this occurs you'll need to zero out the "throttle trim" on your transmitter and adjust your throttle linkage. If you still can't get an idle you'll probably have to adjust your LSN (low speed needle)
That's the screw located in the center of the throttle arm near the blue rubber boot. (pg. 21 of your manual).
Most likely its too rich and needs to be turned clockwise in small 1/12 turn increments.(like a clock) until it idles.

This flow chart (courtesy of your Uncle Rolex) will help explain things much better than the Traxxas manual, and me for that matter.

You'll get 'er done, don't give up.

Go with nitrotrouts advice , it sounds like things are a bit rich and I would say that traxxas are trying to get you to lean it out a bit.
The main thing during break in is to have good smoke from the exhaust with it spitting a bit of oil, if you haven't already I would recommend a temp gun just to keep an eye on temps.
We've all been there , that why it 's called break in pains lol , keep at it and eventually you will have a great running engine just take your time

Contacted Traxxas today. They want me to send truck to them. After pending more time on phone it was determined that motor may be bad. They are going to fix or replace, insure motor works flawlessly and return it to us. sucks that we have to wait a week or to.

Dont forget to keep a few glow plugs on hand during break in, chances are they will foul out.

at least its gonna work properly when you get it back ,I'd be curious to know what is wrong with the engine. Glad traxxas came to the party ,nothing worse than having a sour taste in your mouth this early into the hobby
