This happend to me once. The driveshafts spun when i would spin the wheels and the tranny was unresponsive. I would spin the spur gear and got nothing from the wheels. Result was a smoothed off gear in the tranny. I would suggest to bust open your tranny to take a peak at all the gears. Best to have a peace of mind thus eliminating a possibilty as well. Good luck boss keep us posted to see what you find

These trucks just seem to be one problem after another:(
it isn't always going to be like this with it is it?

Well, if you've ran it enough to wear out an engine, then this is typical maintenance. Once you've replaced the parts you're going to get a lot more fun out of the truck. To each their own, some prefer to just buy a new truck when the repairs are significant to keep it running. You've gotta pay to play, just think that every thing you touch while figuring out this problem is one less part you will need to worry about for a while, and you'll easier recognize a problem in the future. Most will argue that half the fun is wrenching on them.

Yeh i suppose but sometimes it can be frustrating when you think you fix one problem and then u end up with another unrelated problem.

The patience comes with time, or in my case lack of hobby money. I nearly threw my 2.5 Maxx away because it would never tune, after a long day of getting it right, I ran it for nearly 1.5hrs straight on the track watching my temps and I guess that did the trick. A little more tuning and now it fires up with less than five taps on the eazy start after priming. Glad I gave it a second chance, because I love this truck more than any other I've had.

I make foamy airplanes now for $3.00 each, so if I crash them the only thing I'm out is rebuild time. I've yet to damage my electronics so I'm good to just harvest them from my crash and build another and put them into that one. My $3.00 plane will crash the same as the retail $89.00 version. :D

Sorry, I've just gotta share...This is my second plane, identical to my first but improved on the design a bit. My first plane went for about 20 minutes in the air and the servo horn came off on me sending it into the ground at full speed. Snapped it in half.

How long will it take to drop off the transmission and look inside if i have to resort to that?

When I did my forward only conversion, it took me maybe 20 minutes tops to take the transmission off the chassis, install, and replace everything. Should take no longer than an hour for a novice, but there are always dropped screws and not having a proper tool to do the job that hinder the progress. I think I used a couple hex drivers and a phillips screw driver if I remember correct.

Ok thats fair enough, would u suggest i photograph each stage so i know how everything goes back together? or is it simple enough that i don't need to do that? also will i need any lubrication to put on afterwards?

thanks for the links, will get on with dropping out the transmission and taking a look inside, i assume all the drive shafts also have to be dropped off also?

sorry if i sound a bit stupid, never had to take a truck to bits so much

Yeah, driveshafts will have to come off. Getting the tranny out is a breeze, though. Never had mine open either, but if you take your time I'm sure you'll be fine. Sorry 'bout earlier post. Got excited.

should i try running the truck with the tighter spur gear before dropping the tranny off the truck? surely that would make sense rather then causing unnecessary work?
cheers

oh and happy new year guys :D

Absolutely you should adjust the spur first. That's a simple basic adjustment that requires nothing be taken apart. It's a 1 minute fix if that's the problem, and in the pecking order, it's before the trans.

ok cheers guys i will let you know if the tighter spur gear get her up and running and if not then i will take a look at the tranny

Ok guys thanks for all the help! it works it was just a loose spur gear after all, all i need to do now is realign the engine because as i didn't tighten the mounting screws enough with some locktite and a proper mesh and it will be back on the road!:D
thanks for sticking with it and helping me solve the problem :)

Great! Glad to hear you got it figured out. Be sure to use the blue loctite, not the red stuff.

ok i will make sure, also is there a reason why when ever u apply the brakes that it closes the carb? i have got it so it will start, but now when i apply the brakes the carb closes slightly causing the engine to stall this is without any throttle trim on the transmitter. Do i need to adjust my servo arms/linkages or is there something else? i have tried turning my idle screw but it isn't opening the carb more or less, is there anything else i can try?:\

It IS the idle screw. You need to turn down the throttle trim on your radio to zero, then turn up the idle screw while holding the trigger in the brake position. That way, when you apply the brake it can't close the carb below that setting.
