Put it in a zip lock, and poke the crank out. This will keep metal particles from getting in to the engine anywhere when you cut it. Also you will want to put a cut nut on the crank before you cut it, or you won't be able to get anything to thread on to the crank again. After you cut the crank, take the nut off and it will repair the end of the threads on the crank shaft.
