I currently have the newer clipless version on the Rally. It was a Snap on Travis Pastrana edition though that had the BL2s system in it. I have upgraded it to a VXL system. I’ve upgraded the shots to GTRs with VG progressive springs. I’m wanting to upgrade the servo. It not sure what to get. What are some other upgrades worth doing. I have a center diff, better axles and 17mm hex with tires in my cart on Amains website. I’m new to the hobby so bear with me please. Thanks for the help

My go to servo for anything 1/10 and 1/8 for bashing purposes is this. Cheap, reliable, waterproof and more than enough torque/speed for general running. If you shop around on ebay/amazon you can find them under different name brands, sometimes in 2 or 3 packs for pretty good deals. This will run circles around the stock Traxxas servo without even breaking a sweat.

Is there a certain brand or spec I need to look for. I want fast and responsive

The one I linked should give you both of those things. It is 0.05 sec faster and has almost 4x the torque compared to the stock Traxxas 2075. It is night and day in comparison. I run one in my sledge and even with full on 3.8 monster truck tires running in the grass, I've never thought to myself, "I wish I had more servo." Been running it for over a year and I'm yet to have any issues. I beat the absolute crap out of my sledge on the regular as well, that servo is one of the few thing's I haven't been able to kill. Even after lawn darting a 14 pound truck multiple times from god knows how high up, it's still kicking. For the money, there isn't much better IMO.

If you're racing; I would look into Savox, Hitec or Tekin. But, expect to pay upwards of $200+ for a top of the line servo and truth be told, you won't notice the difference in a bashing environment. You will not find an even remotely comparable servo from those companies for $30.

If you like that body, go buy another so you can have a perfect one for the shelf and another to bang up.
Thats a good looking rally! 👍
Yea I was thinking of that but my son and I have already been bashing it and jumping it.

I don’t race at all, just play around at the park and pavement with my kids. I may race later on when I get better. The one you send me should be a good plug and play servo? No mods needed to the chassis to make it fit?

Buy a chassis cover and some shock guards if there are any for GTR shocks, these things are basically rocket powered dust pans in dirt or gravel. Otherwise I'd buy an aluminum slipper shaft (TRA6893X), the stock part is plastic and can wear out on 3s.

Don't go overboard on upgrades until you start to wear things out.

Should drop right in

Does the chassis cover stay on I’m assuming while you are using it to keep rocks and stuff out. The are GTR shocks but I haven’t seen covers for them before

Yup, it's there to keep everything from getting into your chassis. Just make sure to buy one with decent ventilation so your electronics don't overheat.

Ok. As far as fans, I keep hearing people talk about rocket fans and heat sink. I have a single pro Tec fan on the motor. Is this going to be enough or do I need to do a dual fan set up
Only way to know is to grab an infrared thermometer like this. You could probably find one at your local hardware store too.

My rule of thumb is keep it 170 degrees or cooler. Use gearing to adjust temps; go up in pinion size if the motor is under 170 and go down in pinion size if motor is over 170. It's become common practice nowadays to throw fans on everything and 9 times out of 10, they don't even need a fan or the fan is a bandaid to a different issue like seized bearings, over gearing or an underpowered setup for the application. Fans have their purposes, but I wouldn't rely on them to keep your motor within safe operating temps. For all you know, your motor temps are fine and you're just adding more complexity to your setup.

There's no one gearing that's going to work for everyone either. Even stock gearing; depending on your driving style, climate, terrain, condition of the vehicle, etc can be over or under geared. Always check temps and keep a variety pack of pinion gears in your kit, it's cheap insurance for how much electronics on these things cost.

That is a very stout platform. Updrades needed are minimal. What you want to upgrade is the question. NSDRC 1/10 bugget servo is perfect for that. Maybe a new ESC motor. Castle Creations Sidewinder esc and a 6000kv motor. These are just things that are easy and up front. Mine is beat to hell but that is my go to ripper. I run on 4s. Everything has been built to not break, again. lol. So much fun. They do have 1/16 rally’s as well that are good for kids just learning but they are a bunch of fun too. Good luck and play up what you do.

So I already have a VXL system upgrade, GTR shocks with VG springs, upgraded the put gear to a Hot racing 76t 48p with a 22t pinion. I’m thinking of changing the power system to a Hobbywing system with a cheaper servo. I just want a faster more responsive servo
