If your a beginner in RC i would probably recommend the t-maxx 3.3 mainly because.....

T-maxx + and -
+
Easy start no need for glow plug igniter
doesn't need as much work on it to maintain just drive and store
Very fun and agile

-
sort of low to the ground compared to savage
not as tough as savage
sort of a gas hog

Savage + and -
+
Very tough truck
Excellent suspension
torque/ fast truck
amazing brakes

-
for beginners the roto start and glow plug can be annoying
Does require more maintenance I.E. ( shimming differential right out of the box to be safe- tightening screws / thread locking some screws) can be intimidating for beginner

All in all both trucks are awesome but if you do get the savage be prepared to have to take it apart more often compared to t maxx.

I personally have had both t-maxx and savage and i must say HPI made me super happy with this 2011 savage x 4.6 . its been through hell and the only thing I've broken was the spur gear. and i personally have not had to shim the diff's or thread lock screws or any of that.

if i were to scale the 2 trucks 1-10

savage 10
t-maxx 8

I have that number for the savage because i personally know how to deal with all the maintenance with no issues. but if your not into the higher maintenance thn t maxx is your truck.

I'll take my savage xl over a Tmaxx 3.3 anyday of the week. Atleast the driveline of a savage is mostly metal and in my opinion more durable. I will admit both trucks have engine issues but you don't see a savage blowing a conrod.

Hey y'all. I'm new to this forum and am looking for some advice. I'm sure this has been asked before but I didn't see it on here anywhere. But I'm looking at buying either a Traxxas T-Maxx 3.3 or a HPI Savage X 4.6 and if anyone has any insure on which would be a better buy I would greatly appreciate it. Not into racing but just want one to bash with. I had also looked at the Traxxas Slayer but had seen comments on it saying it didn't go so good in grass, why is that? Tires?

See I told ya! Kind Sir. I see no mention of the Revo anywhere in this post.:p: TRX addict i had my T-MAXX blown apart way more times than I have ever had to take apart either of my Savages and it was usually because something broke. It ate first gear twice slung the brake pads off a couple times and Idk how may times I had to replace the slipper clutch pads because they kept coming off as well. Not to mention the con rod split twice and it busted a piston skirt off. Sorry if you guys think I'm being an ass but I'm just speking from my expereinces. I have been running both Savage trucks for over a year now neither of which has the diffs shimmed. I will agree on the loctite thing but that comes with just about any nitro truck. HPI-Killer technicaly I wasn't calling you anything I was just saying don't be one.:D Admit it you're a secret savage fan!:D Just poking at ya!:p:

To be honest. 99.99% of problems with any RC are operator error. Plain and simple. HPI, Traxxas, or any of them for that matter.

I would love a Savy no doubt, but damn they are pricey but god they look so damn sexy!!

^^Nah they get too jealous of each other and start eating your house pets just to get your attention. 99.99% operator error sounds about right but Savys are more forgiving of such operator error.

I'm one of those folks. I have a tmaxx first gen and a savage xl. The tmaxx is lighter than alot of my rcs but my savage is without a doubt one of my fastest.

both are good enough. but if you spend 400 on the t-max and 600 on the savage and end of one year you will have spent a total of 1000 on each one. all so i all ways say that the hobby shop is as or more important than the truck. of course i have not had savage, if you drive the t-max hard it will need repaired, but hot as much on the savage.
