why doesn't traxxas release kits to the public? for instance... i want a jato, but i want to build it myself! and i have a radio and servos already. why don't they do something like mugen of ofna does? i dont want an engine either... i just want the main parts! i guess i could piece it together myself... any thoughts?

Because traxxas IMO makes sub standard Stuff to begin with..If they made kits they would have to deal with even more angry people then they do now..

As for Traxxas. I think the idea of a kit would be pretty interesting. How would they ofer their rides? What new options would they do or include? Always interesting.

EDIT.... I was suffering from a brain fart.

Traxxas had kits at one time. I think it was when the T Maxx was released they did away with kits. I would rather build a kit also but probably 90% of people that have gotten into rc's in the last few years id due to rtr rc's. IMO Traxxas makes a good product for the $$.

IMO I think its because traxxas aims most of buisness towards people new to the hobby. Hense the huge MPH's on the sides of the box.

Very true, and it's working. Starting to see other rc makers putting the mph on the box also.

You could either get all the parts to build it yourself, hand picking all the hop ups you want, or buy a new one and tear it down.

I tear anything new down anyway just to make sure.

Traxxas has made deep penetration into the RTR Word. Its been their modern time corporate game plan and to this point it has been extremely effective. At this point they are racking up extremely high profits and dont plan to change any time soon.

If and when the market segment of their target audience changes, I'm sure their corporate strategies will as well. Until that time if you want one of their products you will need to get an RTR.

too bad for them then... i guess i won't be buying a jato. it's a rc10gt2 for me!

If you want a Jato, get one.
There will be plenty of time to rebuild it in the future. On the other hand, the GT2 would be my choice. They finally got around to updating it and did all the right things.

Hotbodies and HPI are together not hotbodies and traxxas.

OMG I am sorry for that... I am on a trip... LMK edit that

Traxxas made deep penetration into my wallet. It was called a Tmaxx. Might as well penetrated my.. well you get the point..

I think if traxxas made a kit,It would either makem better,or break there bank. Traxxas parts are pieces of crap.If they could figure out how to create a R/c like the savage,GT,Ntc3. Then it would be differnt,But they just plain suck.

i dont know, GN... i have a Revo, and i love it. Sure, i have a lot of upgrades for it, but overall, its a quality piece of machinery.

Nobody, Ill say it again, nobody even came close to the hatred I had for Traxxas and their products after a few run ins I had with their forum administrators and policies about what you could and couldn't say about upgrading their products. When the T-Maxx first came out it was obvious there was weak-points to the truck and mentioning them or how to upgrade with non Traxxas parts was not tolerated on their site. Hence the creation of RCNT!!

They did recognize the issues with their products and created the Revo as well as other RCs to upgrade their line. A funny thing happened after that. The hobby stores didn't sell as many parts and their traffic and profits went down. Seeing this, they have now re-introduced the T-Maxx with a larger stronger engine and kept a majority of the weaknesses that pleuged the original. Guess what? The hobby store owners are tinkling on themselves every-time one goes out the door.

There is a balance that Traxxas corporate it trying to keep in offering RTR kits that will be fast, attractive to the entry level hobbiest and keep them coming back to the LHS for parts and service. I have to say they are doing a great job in finding a balance to keep the circle going.

Once a user gets past the noob stage and decides to be more then an occasional user they soon find that there are other products on the market that will suite them better and soon move on to them. The next logical progression is to get a kit and build it. They get to choose the optional parts they want, mill, servos, radio and so on.

Traxxas has its place in the market and has staked out its spot. Again, I dont see them changing their tune any time soon. But in the future they will adapt to the changing market if needed.
