Nobody, Ill say it again, nobody even came close to the hatred I had for Traxxas and their products after a few run ins I had with their forum administrators and policies about what you could and couldn't say about upgrading their products. When the T-Maxx first came out it was obvious there was weak-points to the truck and mentioning them or how to upgrade with non Traxxas parts was not tolerated on their site. Hence the creation of RCNT!!
They did recognize the issues with their products and created the Revo as well as other RCs to upgrade their line. A funny thing happened after that. The hobby stores didn't sell as many parts and their traffic and profits went down. Seeing this, they have now re-introduced the T-Maxx with a larger stronger engine and kept a majority of the weaknesses that pleuged the original. Guess what? The hobby store owners are tinkling on themselves every-time one goes out the door.
There is a balance that Traxxas corporate it trying to keep in offering RTR kits that will be fast, attractive to the entry level hobbiest and keep them coming back to the LHS for parts and service. I have to say they are doing a great job in finding a balance to keep the circle going.
Once a user gets past the noob stage and decides to be more then an occasional user they soon find that there are other products on the market that will suite them better and soon move on to them. The next logical progression is to get a kit and build it. They get to choose the optional parts they want, mill, servos, radio and so on.
Traxxas has its place in the market and has staked out its spot. Again, I dont see them changing their tune any time soon. But in the future they will adapt to the changing market if needed.
