hey guys just wanted to let you all know what a great help you have all been on this forum,THANX!!!!! now I'm just wondering if the big bores are a huge upgrade over the stockers that come on the 4908? are they any stiffer? are they worth the money?

def nice shocks no doubt. Can't beat em for the price either, the spring are the same as stockers iirc but most would ALWAYS upgrade springs that come on any shocks, and to go stiffer jus use thicker oil, i wanted a stiffer ride on my 4909 and 55wt. did jus what i wanted the only thing i wish for is the adjustability without having to use the spacers like the stockers, plus the big bore allows for more oil use, aluminum as well so there stronger, and you can always put titanium shafts to delete that weak link as well so YEs there worth the money. as for me like said, i put 55wt. oil and it satisfies me for now. i figure why spend the 65 bucks if i dont absolutley have to but when i break one and need new ones ill for sure be getting the big bores with titanium shafts and some good progressive rate springs with 55wt. to start with, oh and stockers factory have 40wt. if that was on your mind too. hope this massive long post was helpful, its 3:24 am and I'm awake and bored:D

that does help thanx man,but just to clarify something are you saying i can add 55wt oil to stiffin up my stockers?....sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm fairly new to the hobby!!!

Yes you can, but most likely you will pop the caps off. The stock shocks are notorious for that, just get a decent upgraded shock and you will be much better in the long run.

yeah the big bores are always good to get if you have the money, 55wt. will def stiffen them up and to no have the caps poppin every 2 ft jump i super glued mine and have no problems so far but they are only modded stockers to satisfy my needs, going big bores when have the cash!

I had the older maxx with black plastic shocks. When I tried 50, I blew caps off frequently. 40 seemed to work ok though. Maybe you can use 50 with the newer gray shocks and get away with it.

ok boys all ur replays are helping and I'm learning, which is good!!! but maybe i should tell ya what I'm trying to achieve......my maxx has a major sag in the back end along with instant wheelie power and what i want is to try and keep the front end down so i can turn under acceleration.......being a newbe I'm still not jumping alot, although it is fun!!!! i drive on a pretty hard surface most of the time and i just want to be able to steer.......can u run harder shocks in the back or a thicker wt. to keep the front end down? lol maybe I'm asking too much, but i still wanna do wheelies but at times id like to be able to mash the gas in a turn without hittin the wheelie bar and being outta control......maybe i just need to learn how to drive better......lol

adding stiffer springs and thicker oil will help get the rear to stop squating so much under acceleration... but the short wheel base and the power that maxx is pumping out is going to be hard to keep the front wheels on the ground when you punch the throttle. The best way to keep under control, in my opinion is with throttle control.

I saw a guy take sticky back wheel weights and put those on the front bumper to keep it down... lol not something i'd do but it worked.

Stiffening the rear will make it pop wheelies better! With it "squating" its putting down force on the rear and if you have a wheelie bar and set it to the lowest placement then when it "squats" and the bar hits the ground it will force your front wheels down. So if anything as long as your NOT jumping, i would weaken the rear a bit and put a sway bar on the front to handle the turns.

You'd be surprised. Softer springs allow for greater weight transfer which puts the COG further back when under power as the rear squats. With stiffer springs, weight transfer won't be as prominent towards the rear and make it more likely to spin the wheels vs do a wheelie. I agree with you on the wheelie bar though.

Not sure what the 4908 maxx has for a slipper. If it's the revo style, then you should be able to loosen it a bit to take away some of the off the line snap. If it's the older peg style slipper, then it doesn't take much time or slip for the pegs to wear down and melt your spur. That older style was more or less there just for keeping excessive strain from drive train when landing jumps when on the gas. It wasn't really designed to be a true tunable "slipper" like the newer revo style one.

the slipper on those iirc is a brownish slipper pad and that one bolt/spring set up, which IMHO sucks. and i didnt think about the softer shocks transfering wieght like that. thats something new for myself to take in consideration, I'm not sure if all 3.3's do this but mines tuned in jus about perfect(got a guy to tune it who's been doin it for over 20 years) and mine will ride a wheelie through second gear on loose loose dirt at a slight down hill! but I'm not trying to lose that :D i love it

its all about throttle control i can almost never just mash the gas out of a turn (depending on surface) in my opinion and this is my opinion is if you lossen the slipper enough to make it not want to whellie out of a turn then then your going to be slippin of the line but i do like em tight
