In December I purchased a used T-maxx 2.5 and a used T3 RC10 and two new electric Rustlers. Hoping to spend some quality time with my boys and teach them a little about responsibility and mechanics.

So far it has been a great experience, although more expensive than I anticipated.

Well come to find out the 2.5 motor is shot. I went to a local hobby shop for suggestions. I am aware of the Traxxas engine replacement program and can get the 3.3 for $109 + shipping.

However at the hobby shop they have an O.S. .18 that was modded by EBMods, and will sell it to me for their cost which is $229.

From what I gather the OS 18 is a better setup but is it worth the extra $120.00??

What would you reccomend I do?

Are there other issues that I need to look at when upgrading the engine on this truck? BTW the OS 18 is a direct drop in with the correct exhaust etc.

Thanks in advance for your advise

I am sure the .18 will give you more power, and if its worth the extra $120 the go for it, but it dose seem kind of odd that they would give it to you for cost, makes me wonder how good of a motor it is if they haven't been able to sale it and are now blowing it out for cost, but no matter which motor you go with I would strongly suggest upgrading your drive train because both motors are going to be alot harder on all those parts , things like steel tranny gears or 3.3 tranny, and some sort or CVD's front rear and center

I thought It a little odd as well, however after doing a little research online, I found out OS is not making the .18 any more they have changed over to the .21's.

My question/concern now has to do with EBMods. I am aware that many guys mod their engines by porting and tuning the shaft etc. Does anyone know if this EBMods is reputable? is their work up to snuff?

Does a modded engine outperform a stock engine?

Thanks

if you want just sheer power then the modded 18 is a good drop in, but i wuold see how much you can get a stock 18 for and maybe go that route, traxxas has been having alot of problems with con rods breaking in the 3.3's an os would be the better mill.

EBMods is very reputable, and I've talked to several people with EB modded engines that have been more than pleased. I researched them a lot because I was going to put that exact engine in my maxx. They have switched over to the .21 tm and the .18tm is getting hard to find. I like them so much I think I'm thinking about buying on and just keeping it on the shelf till I need it.
