What's the difference between Standard, Wide, and Close? I figure the distance between the gears, but what are the performance benefits/consequences?

http://pics.towerhobbies.com/image/t/trac5385.jpg Here's all three, There is a smaller to bigger difference between first and second. Close ratio is said to be good for racing, but it depends on what kind of power you're running. I run wide in all my rigs because I have more powerful engines. The standard ratio is what came in the revo 2.5.

I guess my links are no good. Go on tower and type revo gears in the search. Scroll down to traxxas and read the tech notes on all 3 sets.;)

Wide ratio will give you the best top speed.

It comes standard with the wide gearing, so I guess I'll leave it alone. No sense opening the tranny for no reason =)

Depends on the revo I believe. The old 2.5 revo came with standard. The 3.3's may come with the wide. The slayer comes with the wide as well.

I just picked up a slayer off a guy so this is my first run with wide gears. Not sure if the 2.5R I'm using will be able to pull it once it shifts. I may end up changing to close ratio just to keep the power/torque closer for the smaller engine.

I actually don't know how old the slayer is. I bought mine with the 3.3 engine. Not that I would want to buy one with a 2.5R, but I didn't know that they were made with that configuration

I think that Olds is using an engine he had there. The Slayer as far as I know only comes with the 3.3.

Yeah, I got the slayer as a roller and I'm using the 2.5R out of my jato. I ran it for the first time last night, but it doesn't seem to shift... may have to pull the trans.

I think the 2.5R has plenty of snap for the slayer though. I did drop the CB to a 14T. If the ground hadn't been wet, it would have pulled wheelies. Just not sure how big of a jump the wide gears will make. May try and fiddle with it today... or will wait until it warms up again. Was in the 60's all week, then dropped to 30 and snow yesterday... yay midwest weather!

I have an OS18TM in a drawer, but I don't want to run that engine when it's this cold. Since it's not made anymore... parts are silly expensive, so I'd at least want to run it when it's less cold outside.
