Well I have installed and broken in the Hyper engine. Just wanting to know did any one have to adjust their shift points after installing this engine. I had been doing some high speed runs and it sometimes shifts and other times it doesn't. Yet the engine is just screaming.

You can do two things with the HSN. Just a shot before hitting the shift point in the tranny. First, if the engine is SCREAMING then you might be starving it slightly at that RPM for fuel, thus, not allowing enough fuel to get those higher rpm's needed. This is rare but does happen. So richen an 8th turn and run for 5 minutes. If it doesn't shift at all, then go back to where you were and then LEAN one more 8th turn from where you started. Drive for 5 more minutes. If its shifts fine, check you engine temp. If its too high then you may need to go back to where you started and THEN adjust the shift point.

Follow?

You would be surprised sometimes at how much that HSN can have an impact on multi-speed trannies ;)

I always check them first, especially during or right after break-in.

I will have to give it a try. Will let you know tomorrow of the results.

You could also have loosened the wrong screw but I dont know what that would result in. My savage seems to have the same problem yet some days it shifts every time and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it shifts going uphill and now going downhill. Christian-what happens if you loosen the setscrew?

If you loosen the set screw your tranny will completely lock up and you wont be able to roll backwards at all, and in worst case, wont be able to move forward either.

If your engines are broken in for some time now and you still run into problems shifting, then I definately suggest adjusting the shift point to allow it to shift sooner.

When you adjust your shift point, do it in 8th turn increments and run for a few minutes. You dont always see the effect immediately.

Also, keep in mind, the leaner the engine runs the higher the RPM's are achieved. If you are taking temps you will clearly know if you have room to go on leaning the mixture.

I adjusted both mine and Woodies with the HSN and never touched the tranny. Both of us were running around 300 when we got there. Mine was 280 and his was about 275.

One porblem with the thought is I have not done anything to the tranny yet. Unless it has loosen on it own.

Well I finely had the time to work on it. I did have to change the shift points. It took only a 1/4 turn to fix it. Now it hit's second gear in about 20 feet if I open the throttle fully.
With the more power of the Hyper what is a good gear combo. With the stock gears there is loads of low end there so I think I will be able to have that transfered to have a bit more on the top end and still have good low end power.
