When i gas my tmaxx on grass or when holding the back bumper only the
front wheels spin. All shafts are good. It makes at clicking noise also. I'm
thinking it's the differential but thought I would check with you experts befoe
buying something I don't need.
Any help is appreciated,
Jackass

The clicking noise usually means its a diff.
You wont know until you take it apart and look.
If nothing else its good practice and gained knowledge on how it works.
Let us know.

First things first. If you're worried about buying the wrong parts, do the simple thing. Take the rear diff out and then take it apart. Check the gears there. If they are all intact and don't seem obliterated, then it's time to look elsewhere.
A few questions. When you hold the truck and gun it, does the rear center driveshaft spin?
If so, then the tranny is fine. It's probably the diff.
If not, then it's most likely the tranny.
And another question. If you do hit the gas, and the center rear driveshaft does spin, do the rear axels spin? If so, then it's the wheel hubs, which is probably more unlikely.
In a situation like this, you have to break it down segment by segment to see where the break is.

Oh, yeah, and what Eddy said....

all wheels spin if you have it on a block or hold in your hand.
having a hard time knowing if the rear shaft is spinning since
it needs to be on a load.

I'm almost sure it's your diff. I had the same problem, and it made a clicking noise. It started because a bearing went bad, then the bearing locked up and spun, melting the housing, and causing the pinion and ring gear to lose their tight mesh.
If it's the bearing, you will need to replace the diff case and bearing only, provided you didn't run it long enough to mess up the gear teeth.

I have the same problem too when I apply brake (clicking sound). Is something broken ?

Oh man, not again !!!

Running aluminum diff cases and aluminum diff cups really helps to prolong the life of maxx diffs. My stock diffs lasted about a gallon's worth of fuel. After upgrading both the diff case and diff cup, I got 6 gallons out of them before the cups were worn and causing bad mesh. Now I'm just replaceing the cup.

Everyone was right, differential. So to get me by for a few days till I could get the parts I needed I put the front diff in the rear and the same thing got tore up in that one. Reconstruction in progress.
Thanks to all who responded,
Jackass

my differential is clicking

my differential is clicking in the front end of my hpi rs4 the clicking seems to be emenating from a spring that seperates the two planetary gears ( the ones that reverse rotational force) I'm clueless as to how it has only started clicking now but not before? is there usually a tiny washer between the gears and spring?:\

i would suggest upgrading to 4907 diff if you havent already done so the older style are bad with a bit more hp i usually spin the spider gears inside the cup but another ripped the screw out of the crownwheel

You'll probably get more responses if you post your question in a new thread and the correct section.
