Just had the savage out trying to learn to jump it properly. After the last jump the savage stopped moving, with the engine still running. With all four wheels on the ground the sagave will move forward about 12" or so before stopping dead. Push the truck in the opposite direction and you get the same thing. Flip the truck on its back and you can turn each set of wheels independantly, so I'm guessing it's not the diffs.

I suspect I landed hard and something in the tranny broke. Just waiting for things to cool down before I open it up.

Thought I'd see what you guys think it is so I have a better idea.

any thoughts?

Check your diff cups and check your brakes.

I had a similar issue when I ran the dual metal disk brakes. Hated those things... after a bit of time, they would wobble and not run true, then bind at an angle. Made a god awful pinging sound until it bound up. They worked awesome when new, but after a gallon or so of use, they would start to wobble and bind.

Had a similar issue when the center diff cups got so worn that the dog-ears were hanging up in notches in them as they rotated. Also made a noticeable pinging sound when rolling that sounds similar to a diff skipping.

I changed my brakes out for XL brakes, which also comes with a nice heavy duty steel cup. They are dual fiber/composite disks which are less liekly to bind. They aren't as strong, but they still work pretty well and are nice and smooth.

I still fight with the other 3 center cups having wear... If you don't keep an eye on the wear, they will snap dog bones and cause unnecessary stress on the diffs.

This is a photo of mine currently... really should take it apart and change it out at this point:

well I know it's not the brakes, they're loose as can be. It is the XL, to be clear, and I know it had bigger parts in the drive train.

I"ll post what I find.

Pretty sure it runs the same center cups, except for the brake cup. If not... I need to re-check the explosion and get me some!

EDIT:
Nope, runs the same except for the brake cup.

found it! Two broken teeth on the bevel gear in the front diff housing. Probably all those rough nose dives.
