anyone ever been to any? whats it like? i was wondering because i am going to one next year. I'm going to A.D.I and i will be majoring in high performance engines.

I went to a trade school in New Jersey.
It was good. It worked for me.

when you graduated did you get anything? like some kind of prize. i was wondering because i will be gettin 3000 in snap on tools. just wanted to know if other schools do things like that?

I went to Apex Tech for automotive. It sucked. I got a job aftera graduated and it sucked. So now i do autorepair on the side and themoney is really good. When you can do a job on someones car and get 100% of the profit , its a good thing. I would never do automotive as a career again . Never Ever.

it's definately a hard industry to make good money in...especially down here where half the mechanics are illegal aliens and work for $8 an hour all day long no OT.....If you still want to make it your career, study your ass off and learn ANY specialized systems you can.....my friend did that in NJ and got every stinking ASE cert you can, and makes bank now working on ferraris and 100k+ cars at the collection (autohaus) in Miami......but it toook him a long time working at dive places before he even got a job at a real dealer.......he sends me pics of all the pretty cars he gets to test drive....BASTARD!!!!

I have several friends that went to auto trade school. The one that is doing really well decided to concentrate on only high end autos. He pulls in 125.00 per hour and wears a white uniform.

Just like any trade you need to follow the money if your going to do better then average.

i also heard that about the car companys. i was told they would look at some of the things i did and decide if i am good enough to work for them. i mainly want to open up my own shop. thats all about the 3 Ss in the car world. speed, sound, and style. thats in my dream world though

you need to go to that big hotrod school in wyoming or wisconsin........you aren't likely to come out of just any trade school and be super hot poop in your field....you have to "pay your dues" to the field I'm sure.....unless you are just one super creative mutha fuggah........

I've never been to a trade school myself, but in addition to the awesome advice given above, I'd also look into being a Harley certified mechanic. Yeah, there are many folks that can wrench on a Harley, but I only want factory certified folks wrenching on my HOG, and my friends I ride with feel the same. Sure, it costs more, but I know whoever is wrenching on it knows that bike!

Just my two cents! Good luck!

thanks monkey. i will be taking a test next month for a full scholarship. for just taking the test i get 1000 dollars. which I'm really happy about

Oh and hey! When you become some rich and famous mechanic/builder a la Jesse James, have your own show, line of toys, tools and all that, remember the Monkey Man and the humble tools he sent to ya!

BTW, how is that MT running? Man, I've been chewing the crap out of my two-speed spurs lately! I have no idea what is causing it either!
