I see a bunch of paint jobs where the flames or the pinstripes or drips are out lined. What do you use to out line? Also i need it in black.

I would use liquid mask and trim back for the outline.

I haven't done any yet but that's how I figure I'd do it when I do.

I think fine line tape is too wide for some very detailed work and it wouldn't make the curves very well either.

Just fade the outline it's easier and looks pretty cool on most applications. :smoke:

Kind like this one I did ...........

I guess it depends what you're after. You can do a drop shadow which is where you basically use an identical mask to the main pattern and just move it over a little. Then when you peel it off you paint black, peel off the main mask and paint whatever color and it will look like a crisp shadow.
Or you can just freehand mist around the mask like in Sandho's example which gives a more diffuse shadow...

A straight exact outline. I was thinking paint pen but i dont know where to get them!

Pie, your talking about the one outlines like on 21rc1ogt's flames right? Alot of them are done and the outline is done with the mask. Its a whole seperate mask within a mask (Kinda hard to explain). Id imagine itd be pretty tough to get it to line up as straight as a mask when doing it freehand, but I suppose its possible. I was wondering that also. Looks really nice and clean.

You asked the question in another thread and I explained that it was a mask.
You apply the flame mask, paint the color you want, then peel the flame outline off, and spray whatever color that you want to outline your flames.
In this case I used chrome.
I know it looks like a color, but thats just a reflection.

I tried that but it didnt come out right at all. I guess i will try again. Thanks ratzo.

You can do a fairly even outline if you just make another cut in the mask. Its twice the work, and very time consuming, but the key is to take your time..............
