Hiya all , i am in need of desparate help:

checking through the forums it seems alot of noobs have the same problem starting their engine ( sadly i have the same)

2 days ago bought a brand new all included savage 21:
ok read through the manuals checked all the details all ok
followed the step by step guide to starting the engine all ok so far.

starter in , throttle to 1/4 revs primed with fuel, pull...... nothing
ok flooded ( removed glow plug pulled cord excess fuel dripping out )
fine , tried again couldnt pull the starter cord .....
and so on and so on...
eventually checked glow plug , read booklets checked forums
noticed that sometimes if the glow plug doesn't always glow right to the end could be a fault with glow plugs .... ok bought some new

tried again still can't plug starter cord ..... again nothing
I'm sorry if people are repeating themselves but I'm really really stuck now

oh yea just to add i dont know if this makes any difference , but i can pull the starter cord when no glow plugs are installed but as soon as i do , nothing i can still pull the cord but dont want to incase i do damage

basically both , the starter wont pull when the glow plug is installed , and the engine wont even think about turning over, I've changed glow pulgs 3x incase but all they all get the same result.
once its primed and ready to go , the starter wont pull very easily at all , so hence the truck wont start.

heat the head up with a hair dryer heat gun for five to ten minutes if you have a temp gun 175 - 190 degrees should do it.

ill try the hair dyer and the glow plug it does seem like the plug stops and movement underneath it
ill let you guys know ( gonna try it)

ok , loosened the glow plug , slightly no difference , the engine I'm i pull on the starter cord makes a phufft phufft sound but nothing
heated the engine as well and still the same

when I've loosened the glow plug , and clip on the starter before i pull the cord i can hear a hisssing as the glow plug element burns the fuel on it

but its still almost impossible to pull the starter cord and still makes the above sound when i do

really getting annoyed at the moment

i know I'm a noob at the nitro engine Rc, but I've built electric models from stratch and raced afew. i thought this would be a nice and easy start into the world of nitro models.
I know am a noob at this but i wouldnt say I'm stupid , just can't seem to even make the engine attempt to start let alone anything else

Razor,

New engines can be "Tight" hence the break in process. Make sure needles are set to what the book says for break in, glow ignitor is fully charged, and heat the block up with a hair drier.
It will probly still be "tight" but a couple decent pulls on the starter cord should fire it up.

Be careful not to pull the cord too far out and maybe wear a glove to prevent blisters.
As the motor breaks in and the Piston and sleeve "seat" it will become easier to pull it over.

GL and watch the knuckles.

**edit**
also you may be flooding it when you prime the motor.
Only prime till the fuel in the line "just" gets to the carb fitting.
When flooded the motor will "lock up"

take out glow plug and little washer and turn truck over and dump out exesive fuel.. it sounds hydrolocked.. make sure nothing is clogging up your exaust..

ok I'm trying , when i have checked the needles and heated the block , pulling the starter becomes alot easier, but sadly no ignition yet

just a thought about the needles, it advises 3 1/2 turns from full in for the settings from the factory , there isnt a particular setting for breakin , they advise just dont go under 2 1/2 turns

does anymore than 3 1/2 have any affect ?

ok dumped all excess fuel , as much as i can theres alot that comes out of the exhaust

how do i cure this hydrolocked?

dumping it out cures hydrolock.. see an engine can compress air and fuel mixture alot (this is how an engine works as you already know..) but compresing liquid (the extra fuel standing in the cylinder) is a different story.. and when the piston comes up and there is liquid in the cylinder it wont be able to go up any further and you wount be ale to pull it.. like i said pour it out.. and make sure nothing is in your exaust.. (some people use plugs to keep from dripping spent oil everywere) a cloged up exaust would force to much fuel into your cylinder causing hydrolock.. also over choking (placing your finger over the exaust stinger to force fuel up the lines and into the motor..) will cause hydrolock.. if its easy to turn with no plug but hard with it this sounds like the problem... but as stated befor, a new motor will be very tight.. so use all the tips stated above, to make starting your new engine the easyest..

ok i will try again later hands and fingers are as sore as hell now , another day perhaps ?
thanks for the help tho

if the engine is hydrolocked pull the glow plug, turn truck upside down and pull the pull start a few times to clear the fuel out of the cylinder.

Stay with it. Once ya get it started there's nothing quite like the "Roar" of a nitro motor lol.

well just to keep you guys updated, i ended up taking the truck back to the shop i got it from,
after 30mins they couldnt get it started either.
then some muscle bound dude walked in and said "err i got one of those i can start it"
so away he went pull afew times on the starter cord and SNAPPED IT

thankfully the shop has replaced the whole truck with a brand new one
if it wasn't so hilarious id be crying

Keep at it, it will be worth it. Trust us!

Loosening the plug relieves some of the compression when pulling it over, normally backed out about 1/2 turn is enough. Just remember to tighten it back down once it starts. Heating the engine releaves some of the pinch. If you got glow, loosened plug, heated engine and it's not flooded, it should go without to many problems. Short quick pulls are the key to these.

ok well after my little adventure with the shop the other day after they replaced the savage i got it home and after afew tries, sore fingers and a couple of blisters we had ignition!!!!

so today is race day !, well my first proper run really wooot!
