i just scored a tmaxx for 100 bucks thats in decent shape with a bunch of extra parts. i have a few questions that I'm hoping some of you can answer.

  1. when using the easy starter it feels as though its slipping. sometimes it grabs and starts but most of the time i can hear the motor spin with little to no contact. is this normal?
  2. once i do have it started, its extremely jerky going forward. it loses its grab. in reverse its alot smoother.
  3. whats the best stuff to clean your truck off (old fuel and dirt built up)

Thanks in advance for your time

its been so long but if i recall, you take the starter assembly apart and clean it, it should stop spinning out like that. the other problem is prolly your slipper clutch needing adjustment.

If you have the manual you'll know where the one way bearing is. That needs to come out and get cleaned in alcohol. You'll also need to clean the shaft that it rides on. That will clear the slipping of the starter.
As far as the jerking goes, try cleaning the CB. scrub the glaze off the inside of the bell, and the outside of the shoes. If it isn't that then you'll need to check the slipper.

the t-maxx's are known for the forward jerkyness. its the clutch inside the trans. if you install the forward only conversion it will go away but you will loose reverse.

yes the FOC is the way to go to get rid of the jerking. If u do this u may also see little improvement on acceleration. unless you want to keep reverse expect the jerking a whole lot.

i use nitroclean to clean my truck but it is pretty expensive. i've heard of using simple green or some kind of denature alcohol i believe? correct me if I'm wrong someone as i am a noob myself.

No your one way bearing is still good you just have to take it out and clean it and then make sure you put it back in with the lettering facing outward.

lettering facing outward! no way! this must be the same for all traxxas motors? because i put the lettering inward, no wonder it wont start haha!!
