its me again lol, what kind of tools do you use for nitro cars, like putting engines in as the bolts are at difficuilt angles, also for stripping engines down also what kind of screw lock do you use for engine bolts to stop them coming loose. what can you lovely people recommend.

Normally, I mount the engine to the mount by taking off the engine head. You can use ball end hex wrenches, but they tend to wear the screw heads and strip them easily. Some engines let you get at the mounts with the head on.

Regardless, a good hobby type wrench set is money well spent. I like hudy wrenches due to their length, but my losi wrench tips seem to wear better and I like the handles better. Just figure out if you need standard or metric. Having both sets isn't bad, but costly if you don't need them.

+1 on Olds' recommendation. A decent set of Allen drivers from Dynamite, AE, or even Parma will do the trick. Remove the head, bolt down the engine, and reinstall the head, tightening in a cross pattern (like you would the lugnuts on a tire).

Don't use el'cheapo L shaped keys, as they won't allow you the torque needed to seal the engine good and tight.

Just like any job in life, the better the tool, the better the result.

yea.. cheap stuff just strips everything and it is a real pain and money waster

thanks everyone for the info, i was also wondering if any of you use threadlock for the bolts which go through top of the engine, and the engine mounting nuts, do you recommend using it ???????

I use threadlock on everything but the engine head. I use it on the backplate of an engine and the mounting bolts of an engine.

The gel is the best I've found so far. Really holds well.

I was too, coach, until I tried the gel. I keep the stick in my bashing bag because it's small, but I keep the gel at home for daily use for rebuilds/repairs.
