Anyone know how to make your own toelinks or are the aftermarket ones just as good or do they seem to break a lot too?

Don't know how to make em' , but if I were to buy some, I think it would be these...
Titanium turnbuckles, Traxxas Part TRA2339X

+1 on that. A good brand of titanium ones should be stronger.

I had tie-rod problems on my aftershock. Would snap at least one every outing it seemed. Then I bought lunsford titanium ones and ran it for 3 years without even bending one. Pretty sure the new owner of it won't have to worry either. I did have to replace the ball ends 3/4 times over the years, which is expected wear, but the tie-rods are still straight.

Doesn't appear they have a "just tie-rod" set:

EDIT:
Found them via google at amazon:

I think they are larger than the traxxas ones, larger diameter. Which is why they come with new ends. They are "1/8 scale" size.
