I can rev it up and it will act like it will move but it wont. If i lift it up and give it gas the tires will start spinning but when you lay it back down it stops. What could be wrong.

Could be a number of things, bad clutch, stripped gears, need a little more info.

if you put some resistance on either the spur gear or clutchbell what happens? Could also be a loose slipper.

If I turn the spur gear it turns the clutch slipper. Forward and reverse engage but when I apply gas the truck attempts to take off. If I put it on concrete the truck will go when gas is applied butvery slowly. I wasn't sure what you meant about the resistance on the spur or the slipper clutch. The clutch spins very freely and so does the spur. Hope this is enough info. Matt

Is the truck brand new? Have you ever had it moving? If it's brand new and doesn't want to move, try giving it more gas, I say this because when I first got my truck I thought some thing was wrong because it wouldn't move. You will give it atleast half throttle when cold to move it.

IF you hold the clutch bell with engine off will the slipper still turn? This will determine if slipper is striped. Next take your 4 way wrench and tighten slipper all the way then back it off 1/4 turn. Try that see what happens. ALSO have the wheels been off recently? When was the last time you ran truck... X

OK i held the clutch bell and the slipper didnt turn. I Tightened up the slipper all the way and backed off 1/4 turn. No the truck isnt new I was going to buy it from a guy. It is in like mint condition with scratches on the bumper. Back to running. I done that to the slipper and it goes better. It is real grabby. When you give it gas it takes off then when you give it more gas it makes a squealing noise like a belt squaling. Alos it makes a funny noise when it grabs.

Sounds like you could have either a stripped gear, a blown diff or even a bad clutch.

Hmmmm.....

I'm not helpful for aquat today!

How can I tell which one it could be.

OK I think I have found the problem can you adjust the motor to touvh the spur gear more.

Propper gear mesh is very important! If it is not set right you will strip your spur gear. How are the teeth on the spur and clutchbell?

An easy way to set the mesh is to use a piece of notebook paper. Loosen the four screws that hold the motor to the chassis, slide the engine towards the spur, put a small strip of notebook paper between the spur gear and the clutchbell and push the engine into the spur so that the paper is between the two gears, then tighten down the screws. It should feel somewhat tight as you turn the spur to remove the paper, the paper should not tear tear as you remove it if it does it is too tight. After you get used to how it should feel you will be able to set the mesh without the paper.

Yes, you can. There is a way to properly set the mesh.

Here's how to do the mesh check.
1. Loosen the screws that hold the motor mounts to the chassis plate (don't take them all the way out).

2. Make sure you have both spur gear and clutch gear on properly (since you've mounted the spur and the clutch is attached to the motor, you probably have little to worry about here).

3. Take the plastic bag that the spur gear came in (a ziploc bag will work just as well) and place one thickness of the plastic between the two gears.

4. Push the motor back into place so that the two gear compress on the plastic.

5. Tighten the motor mount screws (making sure that the motor mounts are as square to the chassis as possible...you want the gears to have as even a surface to surface contact as possible).

6. Pull the bag out. The gears should rotate freely and mesh together just right.

Hope this helps...

OK i fixed that and went out to run it and now when I try to give it gas it dies. I will idle for a while then die if i try to give it gas it will die. It sounds like it is running out of gas but it has plenty. And I havent changed anything. Matt

Ok sounds like it may not be getting enough fuel possibly
reset carb to factory defaults and go from there.. X

I turned it 2.5 turns out on the high side like it said to start out with and it still did the same thing. I have only messed with the mid to high end screw. Should I have to mess with any thing else. Matt

set the low end flush with the seat
also what is the temp there is it cold ? X

Yes it is 36 dge here. But earlier today it ran fine but just wouldnt go. Now I have the opposite problem. Which one is the low end. I just got this truck today and dont know much about it yet. Matt

The screw on the right side of picture at the top is the HIGH SPEED NEEDLE clockwise closes counter clock wise opens

fantom_new_carb4.jpg
The little screw in the side inside of the red arm is the low speed.. X

The lsn is the screw in the side of the carb, on the barrell in the center of the arm where you hook up your linkage. if the carb has not been flipped it will be facing the gas tank, if it was it will be facing the outside of the truck.

Also its very cold there the engine may not be warmed up enough will it run if it is just sitting there? If not lift it up in the air and run it for 20 seconds or so try and warm it up rev it a bit while holding it in place just get it warmed up a bit or it may be dieing because its so cold....X

NC made a good point if it hasn't been fliped I wouldn't worry about low speed right now...X

Heres something else you might want to try. Any time I have had a tuning or running issue I always like to start with a fresh glow plug. Have you checked your plug to make sure it is working well, glowing bright orange?

Do you thnk these need adjusted or maybe there is something in the carb. It just seems very weird to me that it ran fine then it didnt. Sorry to keep asking the same thing over and over but i am trying to figure out what could have gone wrong. Matt

I pulled out the glow plug and with the eazy start the led light wont light up. But when I put it back into the truck The light lites up. Does it need to be grounded or something? I couldnt get it to glow with the eazy start. But it still starts pretty easy. Matt
