I am interested in getting a mill for my new MAXX later but I see a few different kits. If I get a.21 conversion will a .26or even a .27 fit in? Another question is with the new power I would get I am sure that changing out the stock diffs and tranny would be needed. What should I be considering? Lastly, is a .26 really more powerful than a .21?Lets hear from the season veterans on this thread and all you interested maxx owners!!

From what i've read and found, it's not always true that bigger is more powerful. It all depends on the maker's design. Better porting, better carb, better exhaust... these are what makes for high horsepower.

Typically with bigger, you get more low end torque.

I run an XTM conversion with an OS 21 RG-X (P). I've replaced every gear i can in the trans and spur with RRP steel. As for the diffs, shimming correctly to the appropriate slop will extend the life. RRP's diff gears don't seem to be any bettor or worse than stock. Aside from the fact that you can buy 2-3 sets of stock for one set of RRP.

You may want to go with maximizer's diff cups though. These help with the life of the diffs as well.

I've replaced as much as i can with aluminum, titanium and steel. Trans, diff cases and bulks are all aluminum. Bulkhead braces are titanium. All of this helps to prevent chassis flex from the 21's power/torque. Adding the al trans case really helped with this.

XTM includes drive shafts with their kits. Although, XTM's are relatively weak from personal experience and what i've read. But, they are only $25 a pair.

Hope this is of some use.

dude it is. Thanks for the opinion! What about the mils though? would an Ofna Hyper 8 port be better than a XTM 24.7?

To be honest, i chose the OS 21 RG for it's lower hp rating (1.9). I get the torque of a 21 for the most part, but i'm not always repairing due to using an 1/8 scale engine on a 1/10 scale truck.

You need to remember that the maxx wasn't designed for a 21 and neither were it's parts. All conversion kits do is make the chassis longer so you can fit the engine in.

I would recommend this engine to anyone. But i would also recommend staying on the lower hp engines with whatever you choose for this truck if you want it to last awhile before complete drive train rebuilds.

I agree with olds. I have been running a 21 on my truck for 2 years with a Cybermaxx extended chassis and cage, and my trans is all stock with no problems. A friend put on a picco 26 and has had lots of trans problems!

hey scottm I am finding the same from people who put the 26 in there maxx. I just saw a vid of a savage that had the picco 26 outlaw and that thing flips due the outrageous power and gearing!

Where's the vid??? I love watching those things. I like seeing how other people beat the tar out of their hobbies.

The savage is also built to handle the 21 power. Unlike the maxx. It's this reason alone that makes me wish i had started with the savage instead of the t-maxx. I've dumped allot of $ into my maxx to make it able to handle a 21.
