Ordered the foc parts for the Maxx the other day. Also stepped down 2 teeth on the clutch bell. I swapped the original tires for the new 3.3 tires and rims. Was wondering if these mods would make up for the larger diameter tires. OOps, wrong location for this question!

Moved to the T-Maxx forum for ya.

Dropping down two teeth on the clutchbell will give you more low end torque. And the foc will dramaticaly improve take off on any maxx.

Yes going with a smaller CB will help with the bigger tires, Not sure if it will be enough, but I think you will be ok, if not you could go larger on your spur gear as well....

The newer tires outer diameter is not much larger than the older style. The difference is that there is far less sidewall, so you get less tire side roll in the corners which gives you better handling.

In fact, they are actually lighter as well as a hair taller. I just weighed a stock revo tire/wheel and a stock 2.5 maxx chevron tire/wheel.

2.5 maxx chevron: 10.2oz
revo/3.3 maxx talon: 9.4oz

You actually get almost an ounce less of rotational mass to get rolling. So the little bit of extra diameter may come out in the wash with the weight savings. That's nearly 1/4 pound less rotational mass. Makes a big diff on these little rigs.

Between the weight savings with these tires/wheels and the weight removal out of the trans with the FOC, your removing a lot of rotational mass, so I really doubt you would have needed to drop down your CB at all.

I never thought about the weight difference. It's still just a 2.5, and I dont have a whole lot of room to get er up to full steam. I figure more punchy, more fun! And if that fails, put er back to stock ratio and trade up for the 3.3.
