So I did the break in to traxxas manual few days ago and today I went out to tune her up a bit was very sluggish and I put this down to being overly rich as I did richen it up quite a bit during break in...after a few semi high speed passes I brought her in the temps where hitting 320 :wtf: I didn't know what to do I richen it up even more but this didn't help the head started to smoke and I stopped right away went home. When I got in (under better light) I noticed the high speed needle was quite loose so i've tightened this and replaced the fuel line and checked the tank for leaks.

1. Could the loose carb be the reason for the high temps?
2. I’m using o donnel fuel if I keep the same % can I change Model techniques is all that is available local.
3. What other things can I check on the car to get to the bottom of these high temps?

TIA

I'd bet it was your loose carb, when I get a new mill I take the carb and backplate off and seal both with rtv sealant. This eliminates the possibility of air leaks.

Yes you can change fuels, but when you do it reset your needles to factory settings and retune from there.

Salmon, mine did the same thing. I bugged for week. The brass fitting where the HSN is located is also where the fitting is located for the fuel line from the fuel tank. Once I tightened that back up all my tuning and running lean problems were fixed.

no good today started her up few passes later the

head was smoking
engine screaming car very sluggish not going anywhere
temps reading 350
cut out a few times but started back swiftly

gutted i went to my lhs to try get some help the nitro guy was out racing so they have taken it in and are going to work on it when he gets back. i hope i haven't done any real damage I'm not even a full 8 tanks through yet

I'm telling you take your carb off and your backplate and seal them with rtv. There is an air leak somewhere. Well either that or you are wayyy lean.

I have yet to see anything over 250 even at the end of a tank on full bash mode. Its been leaned out but not by much at all, I would listen to what V said about the air leaks

How many tanks on that fuel tank? It may even be your tank seal.

half a gallon went through the tank with the 2.5r (before that fried) and 6 tanks since i put on the tm323 the lid pops when i open it maybe not as loud as i would want it to but sounds fairly sealed ill let you all know what the lhs can come up with he has it overnight and will give me a ring in the morning

it can't be too lean I'm starting from factory settings 5 turns back and added an exta half back also. wish me luck i hope this engine isn't damaged again supposed to go for a bash with the guys from work this weekend marking out a track too dont want to miss that

My 2.5R runs way to lean at factory settings. I'm at least 1 full turn out from both the HSN and LSN from factory. When I tune to factory settings, it will start and run but after a few minutes, the temps spike and it flames out.

Just because your running factory settings doesn't mean that it's too rich for that specific engine.

tm323 kicks a$$

Had a fantastic bashing session today can't quite put my finger on why I was getting such high temps before but a few things where done today by my mate that definitely helped

-Changed plug to a more cooler one
-Tightened the carb again :opps:
-Cut a whole in my shell :opps:
-Tightened the slipper clutch (was too loose explains the screaming engine sound I was getting):opps:

I was able to get a great session in after a few tanks the tm323 was flying I couldn’t believe the speed I was getting out of it unfortunately the temps did creep up from time to time that I still can't explain :( so I just carried on richen it and it seemed to get cooler still keeping the performance i hope to get more control over this soon

‘olds’ you was right about the factory settings might as well throw them away it was well off 5 turns out more like 6 and a half for me ...I finally could keep up with my mates with their lst2 revo jumped well today as well
