I am also looking at getting new tires. I mainly bash on a bmx track that is very rough and has hard packed dirt with lots of loose pebbles. What is the best tire combo for this terrain? I have noticed lots of you are using the badlands,is this a good chose? The stock talons seem to work better than the response tire. Need advice. Thanks
 
Badlands would be a great choice, but you may be stuck with 3.2" wheels there. I run 3.7" truggy wheels on 17 mm maximizer adaptors. The adaptors are only about 7 bucks and 17mm is very popular. The tires are crime fighter low profile race (LPR) m2 compound on dish wheels. They are narrower, have what I think is the perfect diameter, awesome grip, and a 1/2 inch offset.

I got these on ebay premounted for 45 bucks new.[/quote] These look close to the traxxas response tires witch seem to work great on a prepared race track. They do not do well on the hard ground we have in Texas. The stock talons work okay but i am looking for something better.

The losi zombie maxx tires work really well on a variaty of surfaces. Great grip on grass, hard/loose dirt, high sand/dirt mix. I have a set, but I run quite a bit on concrete, so I don't run them much as they are pretty soft. Picked them up pretty cheap on a forum or ebay. I ran them on my aftershock at a indoor MX track. It had quite a bit of hard pack with loose top soil/pebbles/dirt balls.

Don't be fooled by looks, those have twice the grip of the response tires.

I wouldn't run them on concrete though. They'll wear out fast.

If I know I'm going to spend most my day at the skatepark, I just run traxxas chevrons or savage GT (old school high sidewall) or stock 17mm revo tires/wheels. Depends on the truck.

With my jato, and now my slayer, I run 1/8 buggy wheels/tires usually with pro-line road rage. Although... I did put stampede stock tires on the rear of my jato over the winter... they should hold up ok since they have a decent amount of contact area. All last season though, I ran the 1/8 buggy road rage tires on it when on concrete.

Regardless, I run tires that have a large contact patch and are a generally harder compound so they don't just burn up.

thanks olds, i just got my motor back together and got one tank of tuning done, Now i need to try and get a set of tires for sphault.. season opener is this sat:D and i can't wait

I can get them for about the same price as the prolines. Bought some badlands and they do the job. We like the dirt, buy a car if you eat asphalt.
 
Badlands are what I wanted initially, but couldn't find 'em in a 3.7. I got my my wheels and tires for about 40 bucks mounted and glued. I was just trying to help you save a few bucks on something better. What's the thing about eating ashpalt anyway?

I proffer dirt... but I bash where I can. Which means getting to the concrete skate park on Saturday and Sunday around 8:30am before the jokers show up with their bikes and boards... around noon. Then if I want to keep running, I go to parks and run in grass. I have a few earth jumps that are fun, but the skate park has good transitions if you use the park as a jump and launch out of it. ;)

Caught a weird angle and it shot right at me instead of beside me... was either catch it or hope it didn't hit that concrete berm behind me. Cool part was that it was on vid.
 
hey guys, i still have the old 14 mm hubs on my revo. do i just need the 17 mm adapters? what are the tekno axle carriers like?

I don't know about the tekno carriers. I have an rpm true track which has bigger bearings in back, and in front I use rpm arms with stock carriers for a weak link. I use maximizer composite 17mm hubs, which are very inexpensive vs aluminum. They are excellent quality and IMO better than aluminum.
