Hi, myself and my Dad both bought HPI MT 2's a few weeks ago. The stock tires on the MT 2 just didn't have the bite we wanted when running in a little snow, so we did an upgrade.

We got Pro-Line Masher 2000 tires, and we also got new chrome HPI wheels to mount them on, so we would still have our old tires for summer.

The problem is...we are both having some trouble keeping these tires on the bead of the wheel. What I am seeing, is that when it comes loose, there is chrome on tire around the bead! So, my question is...do chrome wheels generally flake off like this, or is it just that HPI wheels are not very good quality? I would imagine the Mashers do put a little more strain on the bead than other 2.2" tires since they are fairly large...but it I didn't think the chrome should flake off that easily!

I like the looks of the chrome wheels, but if this is normally a problem, I will just use unchromed plastic wheels. Are there any other manufactures wheels that do not have this problem? Thanks

Chad

My HPI rims also flaked off. So it seems that it is normal.

Chrome does flake off. When applying the tire to the rim with a decent CA glue, you still need to sand off any chrome that is in the track where the bead goes. If you do not, you can expect the tire to separate from the rim under serious RPMs.

Yeah,

Like others said the Chrome doesn't last long. I don't clean my "chrome" RPM wheels with anything other then RO water and I'd reco the same to anyone. I wonder if a clear coat would keep the finish lasting loner.

Peace
