Well I went and bought a new Ez Start motor a few weeks ago and got 2 good weekends out of the new motor after pulling everything apart and re-greasing all the gears. Now I am back to where I was before grinding sounds in the Ez Start system and it will not turn the engine over once again.

Since I have already replaced the motor this time around I will replace the housing, gears and one way bearing. This is a 10 year old EZ Start system so I am going for a total rebuild everything this time around.

personally I like the EZ start, I sometimes do use a glow starter though.

If its ten years old might be time for a whole new one. Ebay is your friend.

Yah I to like the easy start not a fan of pull start unless its a race rig. If you want the best of both worlds go roto start. I run them on several of my trucks. :D

I Like the EZ Start and have not used the Blue wire in about 12 years. Always use a Glow Plug Igniter to start my Traxxas Engines. Pull starters are good but so much easier to push a button with so much less effort.

Stick with the ez start. I'm getting rid of everything I own that requires a pull starter or roto. That ez start system is good except that it does not keep your glow plug lit up long enough. (and yes I know about that other thing you can buy to keep it burning for 10 seconds or so). A pull starter is about the worst thing you could choose and with a roto, it's just a matter of time before it spins your one way bearing.

does the glow plug ignite as soon as you plug in the ez start or only operate when you push the button?

It is 10 years old it lived a long life. Drove up to the LHS today and they did not have the gears to rebuild it. So I asked them to order the parts. Even though they are more expensive at the LHS I like to buy parts from them when I can to keep them in business.

Does not look like I will be running my TMaxx this Friday when I take my other Trucks and Buggies out.

Might be an all Electric R/C day. I will miss the sounds and smell of Nitro Fuel Burning since my Revo also requires parts for rebuilding the tranny still need to buy new bearings. I am going to try and get my Team GT2 running on Turkey day.

i thought you bought a new motor and it lasted 2 weeks? Did it last 2 weeks or 10 years?

The new motor bought my a few more weeks of starts but the gears started to chatter again. Fried the original motor that was 10 years old and now I need to replace the 10 year old gears. I am also replacing the housing and still deciding on replacing the one way. They are equal in age.

I hate to confuse others.

the next time you take the EZ apart. grind, scrap ect the gears so they fit very loose. and i ALLWAYS have at least one spair EZ.

I have 3. They cost about the same as dirt so when one craps out just pitch it and put another one on. I've only smoked 1 starter motor on 2 trucks in 2 years.

Tore it all apart this afternoon and installed new gears found them at another LHS. Did not need a new housing it was just really dirty and some dried up grease from the factory. Also installed a Robinson Racing Flywheel with cooling fins and MIP Clutch. I bought these parts years ago and never installed them. Also installed my forward only transmission. So taking it to the track tomorrow to see how it runs.
