i'm not an expert but maybe they have to do maintanence or update software or something at the towers and they find the best time to do it is at night because there are less users online

Hey Andy,

I'm at a cross roads cause we are moving in a month and my sbc global is up in 60 days, we have had sbc for 4 years now. I'm not saying I havent had problems with dsl, but I was thinking about changing to clearwire when we move and I got a hold of the owner of the area here and ask him how it works. And he said they work off towers, the more that go up, the better reception youll get. If he put one in my place now, I would get poor reception cause I am facing east. They have none on the east side of town yet, However if my place was facing NW I would get awsome reception cause they have more towers on the west side of town, The more towers up the better reception you will get. So he says anyways, doesn't make a whole lotta sense to me, so hearing your story I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. But I don't know how that would effect your situation, that's just weird!

That doesn't make much sense, and I would call and complain a lot. I would be on that phone every night. You are paying for 768k dsl, right? You should be constantly getting 768k. The only reason I was thinking about switching to dsl is because they are supposed to guarantee you atleast the speed you pay for.

I'm actually paying for 512k but I usually get around 750k. I actually just got off the phone with them, and he said it sounded like moisture in the cable right away. He said hed send a urgent since its been like a week and change to a tech and get them out here. So I guess we'll see.

Usually when I'm surfing the net, theres only one tv on. But sometimes during the day theres up to 3 tvs on in the house and it works fine. Just at night it goes bonkers. I just can't understand why only at night. Every night.

I have towers directly north and south of me so you think Id be covered. I do have a big woods to the north of me though. I live in a oak cove, but the south side is completely open.

Nv, Overall with Clearwire I've been really happy. They seem to have good customer service, and seem on the ball (Most the time). I can't bitch to much at them, because whenever I do call and tell them about the problems, they will give me thats months service for nothing. (I have to do a little selling on that, but its not to bad. I just explain I'm not paying for something advertised I'm not getting, and they agree).

The guy told me today that a tech guy should call me either today or tomorrow and we'll set something up, so I guess we'll see. If it happens tonight (Which I'm sure it will) I'm going to try shutting off my motion lights breaker and all tv's and see if that does anything.

I appriciate everyones help.

Let me know how it works out Andy, and what the real problem was. I saw a demo of the service at one of our malls and it was freaking fast, so just want to know what was really the problem, and what the tech told you. And then I can decide SBC or switch over to Clearwire. Hope all go's well.

I will for sure. If it is a moisture problem ya probably wont have to deal with it much in Nv. (At least compaired to Mn.). Like I said before, in the day its fast as hell (I pay for 512k and earlier today I had 809k) can't beat that.

Some of those setups are on a shared network and when the sun starts to go down maybe more peeps in your area surf porn and they are done when the sun comes up... just a theroy...

That actually be more beliveable then when the rep on the phone told me he would bet its a truck that is parked in a driveway. Said the guy must work during the day then come home at dark (Blocking the signal) and then when the sun comes up, he heads to work again..(Making the signal better). I just told him "Um yeah.. sure.. Can I talk to someone else there?"..lol..
