Ok so i talked b4 in other threads about my truck always burning spurs. I thought i found the problem but turns out it wasent. I seen a broken engine plate mount broken and someone said b4 maybe the actual plate is wArped. So i took out the plate and turns out it was alittle crooked. I bought a brand new hevy duty plate with the heat fins on it and it came with new plate mounts. I also bought a new motor mount. Anyways, got it all put back together and put a new spur on and within 5 mins it was toast. I had a perfect mesh and all. All my bearings seem fine on my cb and tranny. I can't figure this BS out!! I'm pretty sure i eliminated all possibilities any help please, I'm getting fed up and dont want to get any more discouraged with this stupid thing or its gone! I can't keep replacing spurs at this rate. Its getting expensive !!

17/47 I'm using. I know this mesh works together but,.... I'm lost.

How are you setting the slipper clutch? Also, post some CLEAR pics of the damaged spur gears so we can SEE what's happening. There's a solution, but we we need as much info as possible to help you out.

Where are you running it? Running on grass can create lots of resistance and will occur at the spur gear.
Do you jump your Savage? If so, how is your slipper settings? Landing and throttling at the same time, with a tightened slipper, will cause the spur to strip.

I hav my slipper tightened right down and no I'm not bufning it on jumps. I'm runnin on grass and its not even long. Id post a pic but I'm usin my iphone to use this site. If someone wants to give me their email addy, i can send a pic that way.

If you're tightening it all the way down, that is probably your problem. That will eliminate the slipping effect necesssary to cushion some of the resistance forces from the drivetrain.
To set properly, tighten it all the way down. Don't over tighten, just until it stops. Then back off 1/4 of a turn.

You could of aways get the Savage XL engine plate. Its a bit thicker than the stock Savage X one. Thats what i have on, and hasn't crack on me yet, compared to the stock ''X'' ones that keeped cracking on me...thats just my :2cents:

I put on a new plate, had a newer tranny so i changed the part where the spur gets bolted on and picked up a 49 tooth spur and meshed it until there was no play at all in between the cb and spur and i actually made it through a full tank! I dunno if the spur gear shaft was bent or what but she seema good now.

You should be able to easily spin the spur with the engine off. There are high/low spots on spurs and you have to set the mesh with a hair of play throughout rotation of the spur. If you have it tight, this will put stress on the CB bearings and cook them in a short time.

As for your spurs, what are you ruining on them? The teeth or the center of the spur?
