Got the OK to buy another truck. I am looking hard at the Savage X. Will use it for bashing only, no racing at this point. Can you offer me pro's and con's on the truck. Like how it holds up bashing, jumping. Are parts easy to get. Wrencing on it within reason. Anyone out there give me their experance on it.
Thanks guys.

Hey,

I own a Savage X and love it so far. The Savage is the toughest bash truck out there, I have landed upside down, on its side, on the bumpers, pretty much any way you could think of from about 8-10 feet up, no broken parts yet :)

The pros are is durability, its parts support (aftermarket and stock), a great jumper, big block power, the list goes on. My savage is 100% stock and will pull wheelies when trying to.

The cons are its handling. The X is lowerd, which helps some but it is not very nimble. This is partly becuase of the crappy steering servo. Also the brakes blow, also cause of a weak servo tho.

The old savage was a PITA to work on, but the X has a much better radio box. If you have a rechargeable pack you only have to go into the radio box if something isn't working or if you are changing a servo or somethin. Also the diffs can now be removed with 6 screws, which is great.

So far my only complaints are with the electrics. But thats the case with many RTR trucks. You say you only bash, this is the truck for you.

Thanks AC48. I'm still in the thinking stage. Would like to get more feedback thou. Did you change out the steering servo. Electrics meaning the servo.

Yes meaning the servo. I have not changed it yet, it gets the job done fine, but thats about it. A good servo to go with would be the HS-645MG. Its around 30-40 bucks and helps out the cornering of the truck quite a bit. If you get that servo, just move the stock steering servo to the throttle/brakes servo and then you'll be fine.

The transmitter is nothing special, but I have not had a problem with it yet. Wth the X, its only a 2 channel so if you want to put reverse in you'll have to upgrade the radio.

savage is awesome, i have it and i love it, upgrade servos like the other guy said, do an ofna throttle link mod, hump pack, better shocks and you are all set. maybe later on a aluminum diff cases front and rear too. motor is great, all the plastic is super strong, the x comes with some screws that are like 1" long, that is huge for a RC.
very good truck and reliable!

Thanks for the feedback Ozpall. I was hoping to get more of a feedback than what I got so far. Maybe I worded it wrong in the title. But I'll put this in the positive file.

I have my X and I love it. Very tough, and easy to work on.

Also, the rotostart 2 doesn't eat one way bearings like the regular one does.

Thanks for the information bustedgears. I'm likeing it more and more!

another BIG vote for the savage, to be fair i havent owned any other monster truck...but for me i dont need to.

if your not rich & just like to bash around your yard or construction sites, there is nothing better than a savage ......it is kinda tedius to work on because sometimes
you have to take half the truck apart to get to what you need to clean/replace...
but you will get used to it.......

OK RP..Appreciate the feedback on the Savage. I am about ready to fall over, cause I'm leaning so much for the Savage with all the feedback from other members. Gonna pick it up today if all goes well with UPS. They got to deliver 2 to my LHS today, so will see if they come thru...if they do, I will have my 2nd truck. Now I'll feel like a real member here since it sounds like everyone here has 3-4 or more vehicles. Glad ya don't have to register these things, I'd go broke!

WHOA.. hold on

you didnt register your first truck? did your lhs not even say anything?

dude you do have to regsister these trucks!. i can't belive noone told you that yet..theres a sticky at the top of the general nitro talk thread that explains it

you may be screwed if you have had it for a while...

got ya ;) (i hope)

Dam..I guess I am gonna have to put off that second truck. Son of a ......!
I for got all about that sticky! Dammm

I've had my X for about a month now and really enjoying it, except for the spur gear the X comes with. Stripped it on my 2nd pass around the track. My guess is the cushion in between the inner plates releases more pressure than the old style the 25 has. My local hobby store was backordered for over a week, so I converted it over to the old style. He had plenty of them. Cost about $10. I ran the crap out of it this past weekend and without any problems. You could go with the new steel one HPI came out with, but until I start stripping the plastic ones on a regular basis, I'll hold off on that cost.
