The T-maxxes were a frusterating ordeal for me, i've had two, and have one now, but we don't drive it. We share the savage instead because the maxx just takes so much more work.
My T-maxx at times has on going problems I try and try to fix, I either threw parts at the problem, or tryed to come up with a funky idea to keep stuff from breaking, I just kinda gave up.
The savage for me really saved me from abandoning this hobby, I was getting way frusterated, spend way too much money, and just didn't get enough play time. Now I just take it out start it up and bash. I don't carry around a huge box with a bunch of spare parts. I keep a spur gear, a dog bone, and that's about it.
They say there are stock problems with the savages (diff gears, hex's on tires etc.) I haven't seen any of these problems I'm pretty rough i'd say and never lost a diff, or stripped out a wheel. The only things I have had to repair were from landing upside down, or getting in a hard curb shot(curbs suck eh?).
I honestly really think that the big block engines are maybe easier to tune, or you just don't have to be spot on to get them to do their job. I think a .15 is so small for the maxx, if it's not tuned perfect, it just won't work right.
I hate to be so biased, but after 1 year with the maxx, and about the same with the savage, the savage just wins for me hands down. Of course this is for what WE do with our nitro's. We juimp, high speed run, and do lots of off road running. I've never raced or been competitive so I don't know which would be better in that scenario.
