I was thinking about buying the savage x ss kit after the first of the year but then was also thinking about maybe just a Used X and rebuilt alot of it..

Questions:
Whats the difference between the two?
Is the X a good rig?
Also are any of the other savages(past models) Good? and are most parts the same/easy to get?

I'm pretty new to this but I just broke in my Savage x ss today and I think its sick! It was a pretty easy build and I did do a couple o little things while building it. Its my first bb so I about had a tantrum when I tried to turn the motor over. Anyways, good luck with the decision.

The X is definately a good rig. If you can afford it, start with new so you can get more enjoyment before having to deal with worn parts.

The 25 is also a good truck, parts are still available, many are the same as the X.

I'm looking at as a basher/project truck if i were to buy used i would run till it dies and then tear down do upgrades and replacements where i wanted them.. but my biggest thing is .25 or x? are they pretty much the same is there the same parts avail?

Completely different trucks. The .25 requires intensive teardown to get at the gear train, where the X is a quick access design. The X is also a low CG design. You can still get parts for the .25 design.

Also, the X comes with a .28 engine.

I would get the ss,it comes with tuned pipe, steel spur, better diffs and dogbones. There are a few more things too. They are very easy to build also.

Savage XL al the way, sell the engine. Take that cash and put a good .28 in it!
The 25RTR Savages are a pain to work on compared to the X models.

is that the only downside is harder to work on?(.25 and x)?

Can i still get lots of ups for the .25

any1 got a list of the differences... dont want an xl to expensive and I'm loooking for a project

Pretty much. It's also a lower center of gravity design, as well, which means it won't roll as easy... It'll still roll over in a turn, but not as much as the older .25 design.

Yes. pretty much everything designed for the X will bolt onto a .25 (except bulkheads/diff cases).

Pretty much the entire truck was redesigned for quicker access to the gear train. That, and the chassis was lowered. The only common parts are some bearings, the gears, the engine plate/mount, steering assembly, radio gear, shocks, dogbones, and hub carriers. There are a few other parts, but you get the idea.

so the after market is still strong for the .25 and most parts will cross over?

Look, just an example. I got a Savage 25 that as the tvp from a X. the rear end of the X. Rollbar...from a X. So ya pretty much everything will cross over.

ok thanks that what i wanted to know cause i can get a .25 roller for cheaper

Thanks guys

Bought a 4.6 X myself. It's my first truck, but been very happy with it. Motor is strong, and lots of new bolt-ons.
