I think there may be some confusion in this thread Hyster. I think your question is being read two ways. Some folks are assuming what you want is a "kit". A kit is an r/c that is not assembled. All of the gut of the vehicle are there. All you have to do it put it all together. However, some folks (myself included) were thinking that you were looking to build a vehicle piece by piece from aftermarket parts. If you just want to build a vehicle then a kit is a great way to go. However, it will be more expensive than buying a RTR version because kit's generally include many parts that are of higher quality than those offered in the RTR versions. Also, most kits do not come with major components such as a radio system, motor/engine, batteries etc. That will all add up. An aftermarket vehicle would be a fun project but the most expensive. However, you have complete freedom to put whatever parts from any company on your vehicle you want. I have a TMaxx that I did this to a few years ago and it's now going through it's 3rd transition. First I built it as a extended chassis twin engine truck. Then it went to standard length with single engine. Now I'm going back to extended chassis/big block engine with a little more bling factor. This is an aspect of the hobby than many of us really enjoy. Whatever type of project you're looking for you'll get a lot of enjoyment from building it yourself.
