He PMd me the advance peek at the TVPs. I sent him my stock set after upgrading to the FLM lowered CG extended plates.
I don't recognize these as the ones he got.
Really, really slick touch you added, Randy.

I'm not skeered of serious mods :D I have an idea of what it will take but I haven't actually looked at the set up yet.

The rears are too short, the 2 fronts in your pic look like they might work but I don't have time to find a cheap set. I've got to get the tvps on so I can get an actual measurement for the length I want.

Sorry about that, I had the fronts/rears backwards. The longer ones were rears. I edited my post.

Well here ya go Coby and anyone else that cares to look. As Rolex said, I got these from him. He had de-annoed the color coat but they still had a lot of filler coating on them. I figured I would just bead blast them, put them on and be done with them.

I guess I'm getting too particular these days because after the bead blasting all I could say was, well they're clean and aluminum. Well that's not enough any more, I wanted something nicer. I thought about getting them re-anno'd or powder coating but I don't have time(or $$) to send them off for that. Also I want something I can say I did myself.

Here's what I ended up with. First I did a hammertone and baked enamel paint job. That looked nice but I still wanted smoething more. After a little thought I came up with this custom engraving. Now it's good enough, hope you all like it :)

Now I just need to get them installed!

Slight Problem

While installing the X tvps, I ran into a slight problem. I researched to see what I need to do the swap but this I didn't see mentioned anywhere, so I figure I'll show it for others that may want to do this swap.

There is a mismatch on one hole location for the roll bar/rear radio box mount. I'll do some measuring and find out exactly how much difference there is and re-drill my roll bar brace. I'll post the measurements after I get them done.

Here's a pic of the difference. You can see if I slide the roll bar straight to the right the two holes indicated do not match.

Hopefully I can get this done tomorrow and update again tomorrow night. I gotta hurry, I leave Saturday!

The Truck is Ready!

Finally after working late last night and just now finished tonight, the truck is ready!

To finish it up, first I drilled the roll bar braces in the proper locations. Then I bolted on the roll bar and the TVP swap is done..

The next mod was the most difficult part of the truck. As our man Olds_97lss said, the 53/18 gearing isn't supposed to be ona Savage. But I did it! :p: It wasn't without some work and small trade off though. I'll get to the trade off part later. First I need to make it even fit.

There isn't enough room to slide the engine over to get the gears to mesh. After checking it out a bit, I decided the way to do it is to lower the engine. I milled off 3.2mm from the engine mount sides only to get a little interferance on the botttom of the engine. So I milled a groove in the bottom of the mount and radiused where it joins the side uprights. Now the enige bolts on with no problems. Sorry about the pics,I took some but they didn't turn out :\ .

The next problem I found was when positioning the engine it hit on the trans mount for the engine plate. So I took a rotary tool and sanded off the corner. Problem solved! You can see it in this picture.

Ok now the engine bolts in,I can mesh the gears properly so it's all good. WRONG!
Here's where the trade off comes in. By lowering the engine, it put the roto start too low. It's now in line with cross brace of the bulkhead assembly. The only solution I could come up with right away was to swap in a pull start. Fortunately I had one that fit. So if anyone needs a pull start for Savage .25, a Warhead is direct bolt on. Even the owb is the same. BINGO!, we now have 52/18 gearing! :)

The cross braces for the engine plate had to be modded too due the X tvps lower the whole trans/engine alignment. This pic shows the mod and the pull start.

The last thing to do is figure out my ride height and adjust the shocks accordingly. After a little playing with spacer blocks, I determined around 3/4" would be ideal. This gave me a shock length of 5" mounting hole to mounting hole. Since I wanted it stiff, I decided to go ahead and use the aluminum shocks I recently traded for. After some trial and error I finally got the lengths set and installed the shocks.

Some minor cleaning and assembly of the remaining parts like the pipe, fuel tanks wheels etc. and the truck is done! The offset wheels gave me a full inch more width and I ended around 2 inches lower than it was originally. I also get a bonus of lower center of gravity by lowering the engine along with the lower c.o.g. provided by the X tvps. You can also see that the shocks are upside down, allthough small it also lower the c.o.g. too.

Now here's some pics of the finished truck and some to copare the big differnces in width and height. Thanks again to my friend Rolex for the tvps! Enjoy !

The tires are totally untested as yet. The Savage is normally top heavy, bites and flips when turning fast so if it'll drift a bit I'll be happy.

I've got the camera ready so when I get to run it I'll get video. Rain is keeping me from testing it out for now.

You wouldnt really want to run those tyres on the road all that much... they would get torn 2 shreds
just my :2cents:

yea i was aware of that but i was under the impression that you were going to test it on the road before you left

apologies
