The Truck is Ready!
Finally after working late last night and just now finished tonight, the truck is ready!
To finish it up, first I drilled the roll bar braces in the proper locations. Then I bolted on the roll bar and the TVP swap is done..
The next mod was the most difficult part of the truck. As our man Olds_97lss said, the 53/18 gearing isn't supposed to be ona Savage. But I did it!

: It wasn't without some work and small trade off though. I'll get to the trade off part later. First I need to make it even fit.
There isn't enough room to slide the engine over to get the gears to mesh. After checking it out a bit, I decided the way to do it is to lower the engine. I milled off 3.2mm from the engine mount sides only to get a little interferance on the botttom of the engine. So I milled a groove in the bottom of the mount and radiused where it joins the side uprights. Now the enige bolts on with no problems. Sorry about the pics,I took some but they didn't turn out :\ .
The next problem I found was when positioning the engine it hit on the trans mount for the engine plate. So I took a rotary tool and sanded off the corner. Problem solved! You can see it in this picture.
Ok now the engine bolts in,I can mesh the gears properly so it's all good. WRONG!
Here's where the trade off comes in. By lowering the engine, it put the roto start too low. It's now in line with cross brace of the bulkhead assembly. The only solution I could come up with right away was to swap in a pull start. Fortunately I had one that fit. So if anyone needs a pull start for Savage .25, a Warhead is direct bolt on. Even the owb is the same. BINGO!, we now have 52/18 gearing!
The cross braces for the engine plate had to be modded too due the X tvps lower the whole trans/engine alignment. This pic shows the mod and the pull start.
The last thing to do is figure out my ride height and adjust the shocks accordingly. After a little playing with spacer blocks, I determined around 3/4" would be ideal. This gave me a shock length of 5" mounting hole to mounting hole. Since I wanted it stiff, I decided to go ahead and use the aluminum shocks I recently traded for. After some trial and error I finally got the lengths set and installed the shocks.
Some minor cleaning and assembly of the remaining parts like the pipe, fuel tanks wheels etc. and the truck is done! The offset wheels gave me a full inch more width and I ended around 2 inches lower than it was originally. I also get a bonus of lower center of gravity by lowering the engine along with the lower c.o.g. provided by the X tvps. You can also see that the shocks are upside down, allthough small it also lower the c.o.g. too.
Now here's some pics of the finished truck and some to copare the big differnces in width and height. Thanks again to my friend Rolex for the tvps! Enjoy !
