Well, nitro_freak1 gave me his cooling heads to do for him. I guess he liked the work I did on the engine for his LST. Here are pics of some recent work I just finished for him ...

Before ...

After sandblasting

After a quick hit on the rubber wheel to remove scratches and imperfections

10 minute wash in a heated ultrasonic wash after a 4 angle polish

The results ... all smooth and shiny

NICE! Wow, that is some great quality work Diver, I am very impresed. You got a PM man.

Thanks Joe.

Here's another head that I did for nitro_freak1. I think it's a mach .26 head. Not so sure but it's the one that came from the LST. This particular head had a story behind it. It fell about 15 feet onto it's head and a boulder was blocking it's landing spot. Fins were all bent so I fixed it for him.

I think Kev (nitro_freak1) just likes giving me work to do. Either that or he has some misdirected anger taken out on his r/c's. LOL

damn man!!! once again .. TOP NOTCH WORK!!! ill have some more for you this weekend...... damn i can't get over the work you do man.... SAWEEET! thanks bro.

how much does something like that cost? The head i have now was sandblasted, but not any of that other stuff....

yup that other head is a MACH .26..... lets just say the fins were bent all the way down to the 4th or 5th one.......

How many hours do you have to put in to a head to make them look like that?
Honestly, I estimate about 30 mins total work time/head from start to finish. All depends on what's playing on the radio. The more commercials, the longer it takes.

For all those interseted, this is what I charge the guys at the LHS when they ask me to do this work for them ...

  • $10 per head
  • Savage TVP's = $25
  • Touring car chassis = $20
  • 1/8 buggy or MT chassis = $30
  • pipe/header = $10 as a set or $7 each if seperate
  • bulk heads and small items are $5 each.
You get the items to me, I pay for return shipping.

Nice work Diver man! I'm diggin the bling. What exactly is ultrasonic wash? If I'm not mistaken its a fluid with current running thru it isnt it? What is the chemical it is washed in? Just curious. Again looks sweet! Id like to see what ya could do to someones aluminum wheels!

It's an ultrasonic cleaner with a cleaning agent in it. The cleaning agent I use is called "Buff CLean" and is distributed by Matchless Corporation. It is used to take off buffing compound ... hence the name.

It's biodegradeable and not caustic and no reactive. When this is used with the addition of an ultrasonic cleaner and heated, it's an excellent cleaner. For you 1:1 guys ... the degreasing qualities are top notch!

Oh and what you are describing, Andy, is for electrolysis. Ultrasonic bombards the part with sonic waves, vibrating everything loose. The particles are circulated through a pump and filter that I have attached to the machine.

my header has like a coating on it, I'm not sure what it is, it looks like rust, but i know its not, probably from the oil or something....i gotta see if i can clean it, it drives me crazt looking at it!

A chassis takes a bit longer but still less than an hour

but this gives a better result than using greased lightning. I tried it and didn't like the results.

I would imagine the heads to take a LOT longer than a Chasis or A-Arm, due to all the detail and such. Still amazing work tho, I am definately gonna send you some parts.
