The next time you thought you lost a screw... Think again as it may be in a place you don't wish it to be.

Had to change my 3-speed adjustment due to regearing for a winter engine. Thought I had it close, and I did, but shift points were still 1/2 turn too high. So, I changed it while bashing today.

It was 20F and windy with no shelter, so basically, uncomfortable. I got a chance to use the new tools my wife bought me for Christmas and tearing it apart was a breeze. I have the X case, so the top comes off with a few screws, 7 to be exact. I adjusted it, put it back together and one of the case screws was missing, or so I thought. Since I was working on it in the trunk of my car... I just ignored it and found another in my spare parts box.

Ran fine for 2 tanks, then all of the sudden it stopped. Engine would rev, but tires did not turn.

The problem:

It's amazing how one little screw can do so much damage!

A buddy of mine just stopped by and dropped off his spare 2 speed trans. Hopefully the top parts work with the output main gear of the three speed or I won't be messing with it until I pick up a new plastic spur for the 3-speed. Too much hassle to tear the truck down enough to swap the entire trans.

Yeah, the two speed gear ratios are different even on the final output gear... boo.

I really don't feel like tearing the trans out because of a $4 gear.

Called two hobby shops that are within an hours drive, neither had the part. So, I just made an order on horizon. If I'm super lucky, it will ship early tomorrow and maybe get here Wednesday since they ship out of IL and I live in IL. Also threw in the missing micro-t -> micro high roller parts that my wife missed when ordering me Christmas parts.

Anyone know if USPS delivers on New Years Eve?

Guess I'll be trying out the ol jato... that's things hard to drive when it's warm, dry and the tires are soft. 20F, snow/ice... Hey, at least I'm on vacation!
