Well, after 8 years(the longest for me) and 208,732 miles,my car has driven it's last mile. On the way home from work last Wednesday the head gasket blew and killed the engine. I have no plans to fix it('96 Saturn SL2) since it was starting to burn a lot of oil,the clutch is about shot, the master cylinder loses fluid and several other minor problems. Time to send this one to the bone yard

Knowing trouble was on the horizon with the car,I bought a cheap truck to fix up a few weeks ago but it's not ready to drive yet(trans is shot). Currently I'm driving a borrowed vehicle from a family member but I hate doing that. After some figuring and discussion with the wife,we decided to I need to buy something decent to drive and get rid of both junkers. So I've spent nearly every free minute scouring Craigslist looking for decent truck for a decent price.
Tonight I think I scored a great deal and bought one but I don't actually get to pick it up until Saturday. :\ Pics and details then :D :p:

hay racer you are not to far from wichita why dont you come over hear and see what you might find.
the reason i say this is that the car dealers here are putting a lot of adds on tv, radio about what a good deal you can get.. i dont know that you can realy great deals here or not. just an idea.

I use Autotrader a lot when looking for a vehicle. Never been able to deal with the car lot close, so I'll put in like 150 miles from my zip. Worth the drive if I can save save a few grand.

I once bought an old car for $600 and drove it about 8 years. :D

Good luck with the truck. What did ya get?

Holding out on us with the info huh? Well congrats on the new rig.

good to hear you got something that will work for you. i dislike only two things more than hunting for a truck. 1. painting, 2. pipe threads

Ok, quit twisting my arm digger :hehe:

My new to me truck is an '02 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4wd,4.7L V8,Auto and all the power options. Charcoal Gray with black cloth(I hate leather)interior. Like new tires and no drips underneath. Very, very good condition compared to anything I looked at in the same price range.

Nice, my buddy has an extended cad 4x4 Dakota with the v8 and that mofo has some power!

Got a '01 x-tended cab. I liked it enough to buy the 'ol lady a durango.
The little 4.7 has plenty of power. I don't need a lot of truck, but I've hauled about 2300# on it. It was close to the house and only one time. I'm pretty comfortable with about 1800#. Have hauled that much gravel in it a few times.

Good luck with it bro.
Looking forward to pics.

to: racer 1966 i have a 2001 dodge dakota club cab v6. i also have a factory, Chrysler, manual, HARD copy NOT on a disc, the hard copys are VERY hard to find. if you need something i can copy and snail mail it to you. sometimes a year one way or the other doesn't have to many changes. [email protected]

Ok, after you see the pics you can try to guess the price

I loved those trucks back when I used to sell them. The Dakota was the best thing since sliced break when it came to "small" pickups. The quads are super nice and plenty spacious.

I got up early this morning, drove to Springfield and finished the deal on the truck. 80 mile trip driving it home - drives/rides great,no noises/rattles or other surprises. I planned on detailing it but I had to work this afternoon. It's clean but not fully detailed like you get at a dealer. I did take a quick pic while at the shop. I"ll post up more tomorrow night.

Big change after 8 yrs of this.....

the dakota i have has wind deflectors on the side windows, they are good in a light rain you can get air with out the rain. looks like a fine truck.
