I’m finally free. No more 7.2V batteries to charge, no more drill’s or modified electric screwdrivers to carry, and believe it or not it start’s faster. I feel this should be an upgrade. I think roto-start was an evil plan devised by one-way bearing manufactures and even my one-way mod failed eventually =devil . But I through in the towel and now its pull start all the way. The only mod I did to the pull start was put a 4 inch piece of fuel line tubing on it so that I could reach it through the RCS roll cage. MY STRESS IS GONE. :w00t: :w00t:

i see people saying pull starts brake a lot but a have never had one so i dont know what they are like.
i can see what you are saying about the chargeing the batterie sometimes i forget to put it on charge and it dies on me. and i fil like smashing it but i think i will stay with it.

Pull starts get real annoying when breaking an engine in. Especaily when its on a collari and pull start arnt avaible yet...

i love pullstarts, I would never run anything else. i agree with pierow they do get old during breakin. but once break in is done and your engine is tuned correctly there very nice.

I love pull starts, but as everyone else has stated, break in is a pain in the ass with them, especially big blocks. They break your fingers in as well.

1st They break all the time or get tangled or something.
2nd You get blisters especially with those high compression engines.
3rd Break in is a B****

if your engine is tuned right.. 3 pulls max.... i think breaking pullstarts and not knowing how to tune coincide.

I will have to cast my vote for the pullstart. I have been liberated, as well. I love the idea of a couple quick pulls and she's purring. No more broken rotostart gears and dead batteries. Not to mention getting excited and forgetting where the heck you left your rotostart.

There is another benefit, too. With a pullstart, you get to "feel" your engine. You will know immediately from the pull if she's on the verge of a flood, flooded, or needs more gas, etc. For me, this is huge because I like to be in tune with what I'm doing. With a roto, you may hear it draw down - but maybe it's the battery? Maybe you're not holding it straight. Maybe it really is starting to flood...

I'm sure the roto has it's place, but I like the ps better - so far. Maybe I'll break a few strings and change my mind.

I agree with this 100%. The pull also makes it easy to set the motor to BDC after running it. I have pulls on my three nitro motors and the only one I was considering replacing was the one on my touring car. A starter box is much more convenient when competing at a track.

I agree with you. Once the engine is primed (slow pull 1), mine usually starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull.

Break in does suck. One-ways die in either, but more often in the roto-start types (that I've read). I have run 8 gallons through my OS 21 RG, just got it pinched and replaced the one-way as well. The needle bearings fell out when I was pulling the engine apart. And I had a second one in a parts box.

I like being able to "feel" what the engine is doing as well.

If your careful when starting, the rope lasts a long time and so does the spring. My OS has both that are original. The rope is filthy, but still is a rope!

The only opportunity I had with an electric start was on my maxx 2.5. I didn't care for it much.

i agree i love my pullstart i dont have to lug around that damn rotostart!! and i know when the engine is hydro locked or flooded.
