So my son got his stampede for Christmas, and we decided to race the nitro rustler around as well. After a couple of minutes the throttle stopped responding. The steering still seemed fine. I gave thw throttle arm a little wiggle and was able to get the carb slide to move in and out. After that, the throttle worked fine for a few more minutes before stopping again.

Is the servo dead? Is there any way to open it up and check the guts? I really havent had a chance to mess with it at all yet. I dont know off the top of my head what servo it is, but its probably the stock one.

If I need to replace it, whats a good quality waterproof servo that is modestly priced?

Try the simple fixes first. The screw which attaches the servo horn to the servo could be loose. Also check your batteries. If your voltage is too low it could be triggering the fail safe.

I'd also suggest checking the plug at the rx, maybe it's come loose. It could also be a stripped gear. If you're just looking for a cheap drop in, check the chop shops on ebay, you can usually get the waterproof Traxxas ones for pretty cheap.

Have you switched ports, tried it in another receiver, ensured it was inserted correctly, etc? I've had stock ones go out during break in, so it's not uncommon.

If you want a "decent" throttle servo...try this LOSB0819. You can get them for like $5.00 on ebay. I put one on my Savage thinking "when it craps out I'll upgrade" - that was almost a year ago. It's not water-proof, but has been through water and still going.

Just a suggestion. No point buying a $30+ throttle servo unless you think he can feel the difference in from .16 to .13 seconds. ;-) For the price, you can't beat it. I have a slew of unopened once laying around for emergencies.

Thanks guys. Like I said, i havent had time to play around with it. To clarify, this is my nitro rustler, not his stampede that is having the issue.

Part of me is hoping that its the receiver so that i can get a better one (not AM)

If you in the market I recommend the Fly sky FS-gt3c combo!
Nice big screen 3 channel abs and a bunch more options!
I tried testing a traxxas am while waiting for my fly sky and it went buserk so I won't touch another one lol

So, the servo is dead (I think) I'm going to go ahead and buy another one, but I wanted to post a "What does this mean" question.

I took the whole thing apart, everything looked ok in there, but when I plugged it in, the metal gear attached to the motor just spins one direction like crazy. I turned it back off, reassembled the gears, and it won't do anything. If I force the gear next to the metal gear to move, it will fight against me, but it won't go the other way. . . Something is wrong with the reversing inside of it I guess?
